The Oak Ridge volleyball team split all three of its pool play games in the opening night of the Woodland Invitational Tournament on Monday in Marble Hill, Mo.
The Bluejays tied Meadow Heights (11-19, 19-8), Bell City (18-20, 19-15) and Zalma (19-15, 14-19) to finish 3-3 in their pool. Cumulatively, Brittany Showmaker recorded eight kills and three blocks for Oak Ridge (0-0-3). Taylor Bolin added seven kills, while Molly Thompson notched 12 digs and three aces for the Bluejays.
Zalma finished 2-4. The Bulldogs split Bell City (8-19, 19-17) before losing to Meadow Heights (13-19, 15-19). Results from the final pool play game between Bell City and Meadow Heights were not available at press time.
The host Tigers were swept in straight sets by the Bulldogs in both teams' season debuts.

The Eagles started their season with a three-set nailbiter of a win over the visiting Indians in the SEMO Conference and season debut.

The Bulldogs didn't relinquish the lead after scoring three runs in the eighth inning when they scored on a sacrifice fly by Lily Dohogne and a two-run single by Payton Friga to get the win on the road over the Rebels in both teams' season openers.
Lindsey Elfrink smacked a triple and a double while Dohogne drove in three runs to lead Notre Dame (1-0) at the plate.
Ellie Retz went the distance to get the win for the Bulldogs. She allowed five earned runs, struck out one and walked two batters.

The Crusaders scrambled to score two runs in the final inning but fell one run short in the loss at home to the Black Cats.
Sophomore Zoie Roth suffered the loss in the circle. She pitched a complete game and allowed 10 earned runs, struck out five and walked 13 batters.
Fellow sophomore Cassidee Wunderlich blasted a solo home run, a double and tallied four RBIs to pace Saxony Lutheran (1-3).
Jacquie Collins picked up the pitching win. She threw two innings and gave up three earned runs on six hits. She had one strikeout and three walks.

Makayla Burns knocked in the game winner as the Pirates rallied in the final inning of a back-and-forth contest to pick up the win over the Trojans on the road.
Cailyne Sparkman got the win in the pitcher's circle and went 2-for-3 for Perryville (2-2). Anna Besand was 2-for-3 with a pair of walks, and Kaiyin Schuessler also finished 2-for-3 at the plate.
Baylee Mercer had a double to pace Potosi (0-1).
