Alyssa Moore doubled to get the only extra-base hit of the game, as the Kelly softball team notched its second win of the season on Thursday, a 4-0 win over host East Carter County.

Alyssa Tidwell went the distance to clinch the win for the Hawks, who improved to 2-0. She recorded two strikeouts and walked two batters.

Andrea Kearbey pitched a complete game to take the loss for East Carter County (1-1). She allowed one earned run and struck out three.

Madeline Hendrix recorded a double for the only extra-base hit of the game that drove in the two runs, giving the Red Devils their first win of the season and the visiting Blue Jays their first loss of the year.

Kylie Wilhite picked up the win in the circle for Chaffee (1-2). She pitched four innings and allowed one unearned run on four hits. She had one strikeout and walked three batters. Carlie Milz threw the final three innings to get the save.

Sarah Handrahan went the distance and sustained the pitching loss for Jefferson (6-1). She gave up two unearned runs and had nine strikeouts with no walks.

Maddie Earnheart blasted a three-run home run and a double, as the Indians only needed six innings to dispose of the host Pirates.

Sophie Wunderlich was the winning pitcher and also drove in four runs at the plate for Jackson (2-0). She threw a complete game, giving up four unearned runs while striking out five and walking none.

Kate Lawrence added a double and three RBIs for the Indians.

Makayla Brown suffered the pitching loss for Perryville (2-4). She threw two innings and allowed 13 runs (five earned) on 12 hits. She had no strikeouts and walked five batters.

In the six-inning nightcap of a doubleheader for the Pirates, the Tigers racked up the runs and took advantage of 11 errors by the home side to grab their first victory of the season.

Kylie Lane was 3-for-5 with three RBIs and four runs scored for Cape Girardeau Central (1-2), while Jaden Kight was 2-for-4 with four RBIs.

Perryville (2-5) was paced by Brandi Huber's 3-for-4 day.

Caleigh Huffman got the win in the circle for Central, while Huber took the loss for the Pirates.

Keevin Dyke netted two goals to lead the Crusaders to victory over the Tigers in the final round of the 10th Annual Festus Classic, locking up second place for the victors in the round-robin tournament.

Luke Daniel added one goal and one assist for Saxony Lutheran (2-2). Jake Wyatt scored the other goal while Garrett Richey and Coby Siebert dished out one assist apiece.

Goalkeeper Jacob Stueve had two saves in the shutout.

Hancock Place dropped to 1-2 with the loss and took third place. North County (3-0) went undefeated to win the tournament, with host Festus (0-3) finishing fourth.

VOLLEYBALL

Jackson 19 29 25, Dexter 25 27 21

Hannah Hunt recorded 10 kills and 13 digs, as the Indians clinched their first win of the season in a three-set thriller over the Class 3 perennial powerhouse Bearcats.

Olivia Wendel slammed seven kills, and Olivia Hallet nailed six kills for Jackson (1-1). Malary Burger dished out 15 assists and had eight digs for the Indians, while Lainey Broussard contributed 10 assists and Hannah Wilson notched 18 digs.

"The girls played as a team and really battled for each point," Jackson coach Tracy Robinson said. "We never gave up, and our solid defense led to a strong offensive attack."

Dexter dropped to 1-1 with the loss.

JV -- Dexter won 25-21, 20-25, 27-25

Perryville 25 25, Cape Central 4 16

Camryn Baer nailed five kills, as the Pirates picked up their first win of the season in an easy sweep of the visiting Tigers.

Brooke Buerck added four kills for Perryville (1-1). Sydney Spears dished out seven assists for the Pirates.

Cape Central fell to 0-2 with the loss.

Windsor 25 27, St. Vincent 11 25

The Indians staged a valiant second-set effort after a sluggish start in the first set but were unable to finish in the loss to the Owls on the road in Imperial, Missouri.

Jackie Verseman recorded seven kills and six digs to pace St. Vincent (1-1). Payton Triller added eight digs, while Megyn Huber dished out five assists for the Indians.

Windsor improved to 5-1-1 with the win.

35th Annual Woodland Invitational Tournament

In a repeat of last year's tournament, fifth-seeded Bell City was the only team to pull an upset in the quarterfinals of the 35th Annual Woodland Invitational Tournament.

The Cubs eked out a 25-23, 25-20 victory over fourth-seeded Leopold in Thursday's second quarterfinal. Bell City (2-0-2) will face top-seeded Advance in the first semifinal at 5 p.m. today. The Hornets (3-0-1) swept eighth-seeded Zalma 25-10, 25-16 in the opening quarterfinal to advance.

There were no surprises on the bottom half of the bracket, as second-seeded host Woodland topped seventh-seeded Meadow Heights 25-10, 25-17 and third-seeded Saxony Lutheran easily disposed of sixth-seeded Oak Ridge 25-7, 25-14. The Cardinals and Crusaders will square off in a semifinal at 6 p.m. today.

Krista Rhodes led defending champion Woodland (1-0-3) with six kills, six digs and two aces. Brooke Miles served five aces, while Rebekah Page tallied five digs to pace the Cardinals' defensive effort. Madison Cover dished out 10 assists.

Allie Sprink nailed six kills to lead Saxony (2-1-1). Laurel Mueller hammered five kills, and Lexie Barnes added four kills for the Crusaders.

CROSS COUNTRY

Fleet Feet XC Classic

Cape Girardeau Central's Jared Neikirk placed in the top 10 in the boys' race, as the Tigers debuted their season with a ninth-place team finish in the Fleet Feet Classic at Arnold City Park.

Neikirk was the eighth runner to cross the finish line to lead Central. Rock Bridge's Sam Baumer won the race with a time of 9 minutes, 57.73 seconds.

The Central girls finished 10th overall, paced by Mattie Huff (43rd) with a time of 14:37.70. Rock Bridge's Rebecca Rubinstein won the girls' race with a time of 12:07.09.
