The top-seeded Advance volleyball team posted a thrilling three-set victory over third-seeded Saxony Lutheran to win the Woodland Invitational Tournament, posting a 26-24 victory in the final set to claim the title Friday night in Marble Hill, Missouri.
The Hornets won the first set 25-17 before dropping the second set 25-21 and winning the third.
Allie Sprink paced Saxony (3-2-1) with 12 kills and 12 assists while Lexie Barnes contributed six kills and 14 assists.
Advance (5-0-1) reached the championship match with a 25-5, 25-22 win over Bell City. Saxony needed three sets to upset second-seeded Woodland, the defending champion, in the semifinals, winning 25-20, 16-25, 25-21. Sprink hammered 10 kills to lead the Crusaders to victory, while Barnes added nine kills and Macy Morehead had seven kills.
Woodland rebounded for a 25-11, 25-19 win over Bell City in the third-place game. Krista Rhodes had 11 kills and one ace for the Cardinals in the match, while Emma Rinacke had seven kills and two aces. Rebekah Page had three aces and five digs, while Madison Culver recored 23 assists.
The Eagles debuted their season with a sweep of the visiting Eagles of Festus, Mo.

Bobby Wright went 2 for 3 and drove in two runs as the Cubs used an explosive first inning to easily handle the Royals in the road rout.
Cole Nichols was the winning pitcher and also doubled twice for Bell City (3-0). He threw a complete game, gave up one unearned run, struck out nine and walked four.
Austin Hicks batted in four runs for the Cubs.
Zac Hardin suffered the pitching loss for Twin Rivers (1-2). He threw 2/3 of an inning and allowed 10 earned runs on nine hits. He had one strikeout and walked two batters.

Todd Priggel and Drew Reischman each blasted a home run as the Eagles opened their fall season with a win at home over the Bulldogs.

Riley Cain was the losing pitcher for South Pemiscot. He threw a complete game and allowed four earned runs, struck out 10 and walked three.

Isaac Ellsworth netted the game-winning goal on an assist from Quint Schamburg with five minutes left in the second half to lead the Pirates to victory over the Wildcats in the opening round of the Greg Kline Invitational Tournament at Carbondale, Illinois.
Goalkeeper Trent Unterreiner had four saves for Perryville (2-0) in the shutout.
Anna-Jonesboro dropped to 1-2 with the loss.
Evan Paoni and Rylee Clayton scored one goal apiece as the Titans dealt the Tigers their first loss of the season in the opening round of the Greg Kline Invitational Tournament.
Cape Girardeau Central fell to 1-1 with the loss while Glenwood improved to 2-0.
Nennja Tostic recorded one goal and one assist as the Eagles picked up their first win of the season in the victory over the visiting Eagles of The Fulton School at St. Albans.
Elijah Cook and Hunter Jones added one goal apiece for Eagle Ridge (1-1).
