In the girls' MSHSAA Class 2 State Tournament, Jackson senior Mallorie Metzger (36-4) placed 4th after pinning Lily Steigerwald of Holt to reach the third-place match.

Notre Dame senior Emma Steimle (23-5) placed 5th in the MSHSAA Class 1 State Tournament in the 190-pound weight class at Mizzou Arena in Columbia, Missouri on Thursday.

Steimle earned her place on the podium by pinning Kyla Finney of Jefferson City (44-16) in 2:45 minutes in the 5th Place match.

Steimle started the tournament with a win by fall over Taylor Glidewell of Cassville (31-13) in 1:45 minutes in the first round. After falling in the quarterfinal, Steimle won her next three matches by fall in the consolation bracket.

"She definitely deserves this," Notre Dame head coach Garrett Watson said of Steimle. "She's worked hard in the practice room and the classroom to get here. Her hard work has propelled girls wrestling into the spotlight at Notre Dame. So much in fact that students were following her matches along during school and even cheering in the hallways when she made a big takedown. Everyone is really excited that she was able to get a medal."
