A number of local teams stood out at the Bob Sink Jackson Invitational on Saturday, but Jackson emerged as one of the lead gold-getters as the hosts raked in first-place wins along with the visiting Poplar Bluff Mules, with the teams winning 10 and seven varsity gold medals respectively.
The teams both finished inside of the top three in gold medals won in the event, with Hillsboro’s 10 tied with host Jackson for the most wins on Saturday.
The Indians took home gold in the boys’ 3200-meter run from Hunter Wendel at 9:32.00, the boys’ 4x800-meter relay at 8:16.80, the boys’ shot put from Nicholas Heisserer at 44-foot-11, the girls’ 400-meter dash from Beckley Goetz at 1:01.80, the girls’ 800-meter run from Mallorie Metzger at 2:24.68, the girls’ 1600-meter run from Annika Barks at 5:36.33, the girls’ 4x400-meter relay at 4:18.72, the girls’ 4x800-meter relay at 10:25.26, the girls’ discus from Lillian Gibbs at 118-foot-10 and the girls’ javelin again from Gibbs at 110-foot-10.
Poplar Bluff took gold in the boys’ 4x100-meter relay at 44.52, the boys’ high jump from Darius Graham at 6-foot-6, the boys’ triple jump from Graham at 42-foot-6.25, the girls’ 100-meter dash from Samantha Dowd at 12.79, the girls’ 200-meter dash from Dowd at 26.52, the varsity girls’ 4x100-meter relay at 51.90 and the girls’ 4x200-meter relay at 1:49.96.
Cape Central earned first place in the boys’ 800-meter run from Henry Rusten at 2:02.37, with Rusten’s win serving as the only varsity gold for the Tigers of the meet.
Sikeston took home the win in the girls’ high jump with Brionna Williams’ 4-foot-11.75 result as the Bulldogs left with a varsity gold medal.
New Madrid County Central won the boys’ long jump with Ja’Kwon Jones’ 20-foot-8 jump as the visiting Eagles won their sole varsity gold medal.
