__Chaffee 41, Grandview (Hillsboro) 6__
The Chaffee Red Devils defeated the Grandview (Hillsboro) Eagles 41-6 on Homecoming at Chaffee High School on Friday to finish the regular season with a 5-4 record. It is the first season since 2017 in which the Red Devils have a winning record entering the postseason.
A strong ground attack and swarming defense led the Devils to a winning regular season as they cruised past the Eagles. Quarterback Carson Spies ran all the field for five touchdowns and 171 rushing yards on those scoring plays. He finished the regular season with 13 rushing touchdowns, which leads all local quarterbacks.
Senior running back Shelton Simmons also got in the ground action with an 81-yard touchdown run of his own.
On defense, Chaffee forced and recovered three fumbles that Blake Yarbro, Levi McKinnie, and Bronson Trost each hopped on the football for a recovery. The defense faced a tough running back of the Eagles who seemingly could not be stopped, until the red zone, a classic example of bend but don’t break defense.
Chaffee will begin play in the Class 1 District 2 tournament as the fifth seed.
__St. Pius X 51, Perryville 0__
The Perryville Pirates finished the regular season similar to how they started, with a 50+ point shutout loss. The Pirates fell to the Lancers of St. Pius X 51-0 on Senior Night at Perryville High School on Friday.
The Pirates' first offensive play of the game resulted in an interception that turned into a quick first-quarter touchdown by the Lancers. St. Puis X led 21-0 at halftime and cruised to victory the rest of the way.
With the loss, Perryville finishes the regular season 4-5 and with the third seed in the Class 4 District 1 bracket behind only Festus (6-3) and Hillsboro (8-1). The Pirates will likely host Sikeston on Friday.
__Scott City enjoys rare Week 9 bye__
Scott City was slated to host Doniphan for the final game of the regular season but since the Dons canceled the remainder of their season two weeks ago, the Rams enjoyed a rare bye week before the Class 2 District 1 playoffs. With the forfiet win included, the Rams enter the playoffs with a 7-2 record and a five-game winning streak. Scott City is the No. 3 seed and will likely host East Prairie in the first round on Friday, Oct. 27.
Senior running back Tyson Underwood has rushed for 1,002 yards and 19 touchdowns, including one receiving to total 20 trips to the end zone. Senior quarterback Mark Panagos has thrown for 1,329 yards, rushed for 796, and has scored 11 touchdowns each through the air and ground. Lawson Graff (83) and Blake Wilburn (82) lead the defense in the tackling department.
