Saxony Lutheran and Jackson played host to Windsor at Southeast Missouri State University on Monday, with the hosts both defeating Windsor handedly.

Saxony Lutheran and Jackson played host to Windsor at Southeast Missouri State University on Monday, with the hosts both defeating Windsor handedly.

Saxony Lutheran took a 9-0 win against the visiting Owls, while Jackson defeated Windsor at 8-1. In the midst of round-robin play, the Crusaders also defeated Jackson at 7-2.

Round robin fed into bracket play, which Saxony Lutheran again played strongly in. Maggie Hillin, Abby Haley, Evie Caruso, Addie Thomason and Katya Rust all won singles tournaments for the Crusaders, while the doubles pairings of Hillin/Haley and Caruso/Thomason took titles.

Jackson’s Melanie Nugent won her respective singles tournament, while the pairing of Ella Montgomery/Gracyn Cox won the final doubles tournament for Jackson.

Saxony Lutheran next plays at 4 p.m. on Tuesday at Arcadia Valley (0-1), while Jackson is set to host Sikeston at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.

__BASEBALL: Bell City falters late in Greenville loss__

Bell City (1-1) fell behind early, and while outhitting the Greenville Bears (3-1), fell by a 10-4 margin at home on Monday.

Dawson Loomes led the Cubs with three hits and two RBIs in the loss, with Easton Newell, Jacob Asher and Blaine Scheible all chipping in two hits. Bell City outhit Greenville at 13-7 but couldn’t turn the hits into runs.

Senior Trey Porter had quite the impressive night on both ends for the visiting Bears, earning the win on the mound with a 6.1-inning, four-run effort while notching two hits for four RBIs.

Bell City next hosts Puxico at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

__SOFTBALL: Slow night for Perryville offense stings in Windsor loss__

The Perryville Pirates softball team (0-4) continued its season-opening scratch with a tough 14-0 loss against Windsor, finishing with just one hit as a team while Windsor dominated on both ends.

McKayla Pecaut led the Pirates, reaching base twice in the loss with two bases on balls. Caroline Gremaud also drew a walk and reached on an error, Marley Seabaugh reached on a hit-by-pitch and junior Julia Hotop got the only hit of the game for the Pirates with a single in the fifth inning.

The Pirates next play two games at Southeast Missouri State University on Tuesday, the first being a 4:30 p.m. start against East Carter (2-0) and the second a 7 p.m. game against Cape Central (0-2).

__Neelyville 7, Kelly 6__

Kelly dropped its season-opening contest on Monday, falling to Neelyville on the road in a 7-6 contest that saw Neelyville clinging onto an early lead.

Despite a four-run frame from Neelyville in the bottom of the first, the Kelly offense came back to give the Tigers a run. Blaire Riley and Gwendolyn Essner both finished with two hits in the loss for Kelly, with Riley grabbing one of the Hawks’ five RBIs.

September Preslar of Neelyville grabbed the win on the mound, pitching the full 7.0 innings with six hits, two walks and five strikeouts, earning just four runs in the victory. Offensively, Reese Dobbins’ three hits and four RBIs led the Tigers while Jade Crosswhite, Parker Ernst and Delayni Dobbins all finished with two hits.

Kelly next hosts Chaffee (2-0) at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
