The Oran softball team opened its season up with a win, scoring a single run in the bottom of the seventh inning to negate a two-run top of the inning, winning 5-4.
Molly Spane and Dalaini Bryant both tallied two hits in the win for Oran, with Spane holding the team lead in RBIs with two in the win. Spane pitched a complete game for the Eagles, striking out 10 and giving up just three hits.
Scott City’s Olivia Ponder finished with one of the Rams’ three hits in the ballgame, leading the team in RBIs with two, tied for the game lead. Scott City’s Mackenzie Lawless pitched 6.2 innings for the Rams, earning just two of the five runs that Oran scored.
Oran next plays at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday at Bernie (0-1), while Scott City plays at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday against Anna-Jonesboro.
__Advance 13, Woodland 2__
The Advance softball team opened its season in grand fashion, outsourcing Woodland (0-2) by a 13-2 margin on the road.
Addison Carlton, Natalee Roper and Makenzi Johnson combined for 11 hits in the win as Carlton finished with a game-high five RBIs in the victory. Carlton made her presence known on the mound as well, allowing just five hits and two walks across seven innings, striking out 10 along the way.
Woodland junior Rhodie Long finished with a team-high two hits and an RBI in the loss on Monday while also throwing the full seven innings for the Cardinals, striking out seven batters.
Advance next hosts Charleston at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while Woodland next hosts Bernie (0-1) at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
