Notre Dame girls basketball opened up its season, and its run in the 2023 SEMO Conference Tournament, with a 61-32 victory against Poplar Bluff (1-3) on Tuesday.
Kate Rubel led all scorers in the win with 15 points for the Bulldogs, with twin teammate Brie Rubel’s 11 points following close behind.
For the Mules, both Abby Wilson and Kennedy Zgaynor finished with eight points scored, with Anna Hays chipping in another six.
No. 1 Notre Dame will take on Kennett in a tournament semifinal on Thursday at New Madrid County Central High School.
__Kennett 72, Cape Central 35__
Kennett started its season right with a dominant 37-point victory against the Cape Central Tigers (0-1) on Tuesday to advance to a SEMO Conference Tournament semifinal.
Kennett freshman Alaina Edwards’ 35 points led all scorers in the game, while sophomore E'Marriha Johnson put in another 26 points as the underclassman duo combined for 61.
Emani Summers and Jamie Dawson-Ide both scored 12 points to lead the Tigers in scoring.

__Oak Ridge 45, Puxico 28__
Oak Ridge (3-1) responded to a tough loss on Monday with a 17-point victory against Puxico (0-3) on Tuesday.
Reagan Howe scored 20 of Oak Ridge’s 45 points in the win, with teammates Madyson Ruehling (11), Madalyn Schemel (9) and MaKayla Rangel (3) all chipping into the final score.
Howe also grabbed 10 boards to secure a double-double in the win, while Ruehling secured one of her own with a team-high 11 points to go with four steals.
Oak Ridge next travels to play Grandview (0-2) at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday at Grandview High School in Hillsboro, Missouri.

Saxony Lutheran opened its season on the right foot on Tuesday with an impressive 74-32 win against Grandview in the Rolla "Duke' Herbert Tournament.
Luke Eggemeyer dropped in 25 points for the Crusaders, while John Hartmann put in another 23 points as the two combined for 48 of Saxony’s 74 in the win.
The Crusaders will continue their run in the Rolla "Duke' Herbert Tournament this week in Crystal City, Missouri.
