Cape Central snatched victory from the jaws of defeat in the fifth inning to defeat DeSoto 3-2 on Wednesday.
Caden Chenoweth led off the fifth inning with a walk. Cade Emmenderfer moved him to second base by hitting a single. Carter Crosnoe then loaded the bases with a base hit of his own.
TJ Klipfel earned the victory on the mound for the Tigers. He surrendered two runs on three hits with five strikeouts over 4.1 innings.
Jackson Witvoet threw the remaining 2.2 innings in relief out of the bullpen. He also drove in a run on a line drive single in the fourth inning.
Jathan Spain hit into a double play but it was enough to bring Chenoweth home for the go-ahead run. Chenoweth scored the Tigers' first run on a double-steal in the third inning.
Cape Central (12-13) hosts St. Pius X on Saturday at 11 a.m.
St. Vincent 2, Meadow Heights 1
The St. Vincent Indians defeated the Meadow Heights Panthers 2-1 on Wednesday at Meadow Heights High School.
The offense of St. Vincent was led by senior Blake Monier who went 1-3 with one RBI, Monier also pitched a complete game and finished with seven strikeouts and one walk.
The Panther offense was led by B Hayes who went 1-3 with one RBI, Hayes also did most of the work on the mound and finished with nine strikeouts.
The game was a 0-0 stalemate until the top of the fifth when a Monier bunt scored senior Grant Abernathy to give St. Vincent the 1-0 lead. The next inning saw junior Simon Barber ground into a fielders choice, bringing in senior Trevor Moonier for the 2-0 lead.
Meadow Heights avoided the shutout when Hayes hit a double that allowed Will Green to score.
St. Vincent will go to Saxony Lutheran at 4:30 p.m. on Friday while Meadow Heights will play Oak Ridge at home at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
__Delta 11, Richland (Essex) 4__
The Delta Bobcats defeated the Richland (Essex) Rebels 11-4 on Wednesday at Delta High School.
The offense of Delta was led by junior Austin Keys who went 3-6 with one RBI while coming around to score himself twice. Freshman Paxton Hornbuckle and senior Gavin Lesch split time on the mound and together had 13 strikeouts and two walks.
Delta will go to Saxony Lutheran at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
__Oran 10, Charleston 0__
The Oran Eagles defeated the Charleston Blue Jays 10-0 on Wednesday at Oran High School.
The offense of Oran was led by sophomore Carson Dern who went 1-3 with an RBI and came around to score once himself. Senior Kolten Payne and sophomore Parker Bryant split time on the mound and totaled 12 strikeouts and one walk as a duo.
Oran used a huge nine-run fourth inning to send Charleston home in five innings.
Oran will go to Kelly at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
__Chester (IL) 11, Perryville 10__
The Chester Yellow Jackets defeated the Perryville Pirates 11-10 on Wednesday at Chester High School.
The offense of the Pirates was led by sophomore Troy O’Keefe who went 2-3 with two walks and three RBIs. Junior Logan Hoehn did most of the work on the mound for Perryville and totaled eight strikeouts and three balls.
Perryville held a 10-9 lead in the sixth inning but Chester was able to score two and squeak by with the win
Perryville will be at home against Herculaneum at 4 p.m. on Thursday.
