It was a busy Wednesday in the Southeast Missourian newspaper coverage area, specifically for Kelly as the Hawks baseball team knocked off Saxony Lutheran.

The Hawks (2-3) ended a two-game skid with a big win over the streaking Crusaders (3-3) on Wednesday.

Going on the road, the Hawks went north and took down Saxony with a big performance from Nicholas Christian, who notched two hits while also grabbing the win in relief.

Bell City baseball (4-0) stayed perfect with a loud win against Richland on Wednesday, while Chaffee (7-1) got right after a Tuesday loss with a mercy-rule win against New Madrid County Central.

Bell City got a strong three innings from Easton Newell, while Chaffee's Kade Atkins closed off Levi McKinnie's early winning efforts to hold NMCC hitless.

In the day's lone softball game, Piper Lincoln of Leopold made absolutely sure that the Wildcats (2-3) got back on the right track.

The sophomore sensation pitched four innings of two-run ball in the circle while notching a ridiculous four hits at the plate to remain one of the toughest two-way players in the area.

Notre Dame baseball (5-3) split a pair in the Land of Lincoln, losing early to Cary-Grove before dominating Woodstock in the second game.

Brycen Clark of Notre Dame went 4-for-5 in that second game, hitting for a double and a triple while teammate Logan Landewee clubbed another two doubles in the win.
