An action-packed Friday afternoon in the Southeast Missourian newspaper coverage area gave heed to a couple big headlines over the course of the day.
Like this one: Delta baseball has finally grabbed it's first win of the year.
The Bobcats (1-5) knocked off Charleston after a brutal start to the year, holding the Blue Jays to just two hits en route to a shutout victory on the road.
Notre Dame baseball (3-2) split a doubleheader on the road, while Cape Central (1-4) dropped two at home against Kirkwood.
Woodland (1-2) also got its first baseball win of the year, albeit in its third try.
Taking down Oak Ridge (0-2), the Cardinals managed to drag down the Bluejays despite getting out-hit in the matchup thanks to some great pitching from Colton Jordan.
All the while, Woodland softball (1-2) got its first win of the year with a domination of Oak Ridge (1-2) at home, including a masterclass performance by Mallary Barks.
The junior's day included a triple and an inside-the-park homer, finishing with five RBIs to push the Cards to their first dub of the year.
Chaffee (5-0) and Bell City (3-0) baseball continued their undefeated seasons with lopsided victories against local opponents.
The Devils were led by Levi McKinnie, who made his first start of the new year and cut up Meadow Heights on the road for a huge Chaffee victory.
Bell City's day was led, loudly, by Kale Richardson, who clubbed two bombs for the Cubs to push them to a firm, forceful defeat of Bloomfield.
Scott City baseball (4-1) took its first loss of the year at Farmington, succumbing to a dominant Knights squad in what will surely go down as a quality loss.
The Rams jumped out to an early three-run lead, but Farmington's pitching change saw them lose all that momentum and quickly fall flat as the game progressed.
The Rams' softball club, however, improved to 3-2 after taking back-to-back losses with a 15-1 trouncing of East Prairie at home.
Alyssa Dirden led Scott City to the victory with a strong performance in the circle while garnering two hits offensively.
