On an uncharacteristically slow Friday afternoon, the majority of the action was between SEMO Conference schools on opening day of the tournament.

But for Chaffee, the Red Devils did some cooking on the road to knock off one of the better programs in Southeast Missouri.

Led by a five-run third inning, Chaffee (18-3) put up some serious firepower against Cooter, led by a balanced offensive outing.

Freshman Rolen Reischman did a job for the Devs, hitting twice for two RBIs. Connor Berry got a two-run triple while Carson Spies and Kamden Little both came away with doubles.

Kade Atkins ate the middle innings nicely, pitching 4.1 frames on just one earned run and striking out 10 Wildcat batters to allow Chaffee to charge into the lead.

Talan King led the Wildcats with two of their three hits, singling twice while also getting the start on the mound, only earning two runs over 4.1 innings himself.

Jackson (19-6) was the lone local school to open the SEMO Conference Tournament on a win, so the Indians naturally had to do it in style.

They scored five runs in the second and repeated that effort in the fourth to storm past what's been a surging Sikeston team of late.

Waylon Hale, Cooper Rhodes and Jaiden Glency each notched a pair of hits, Rhodes doubling and Glency tripling while Peyton Kight hit a two-run homer in the second.

Rhodes and Kight tied for the team lead with three RBIs each, with Hale contributing another two with some elite situational hitting.

Ryan Turlington got credit for the win, throwing 2.2 innings beginning in the second and allowed two hits, two walks but nothing across the plate.

Peyton Mitchell led the Sikeston effort with a couple singles of his own, driving in a run while also drawing a walk.

Sometimes, the rally falls just a little bit short. Notre Dame rallied from seven down to nearly tie the game, but fell just short.

After scoring six runs in the seventh, and with the winning run trying to advance to second base, Dexter cut him down to seal a 9-8 win in the first round of the conference tourney.

Reid Morgan hit a double and two singles for three hits, driving in four runs in the process as he directed the Notre Dame offense to a strong performance.

For Dexter, it was James Howard and Nolan Alford, who collected four and three hits each. Howard drove in a ridiculous five runs on three singles and a double.

Chase Lawson and Tyler Gamel combined for a final 1.1 innings without an earned run, but that scoreless streak couldn't hold off Dexter's huge lead in the loss.

__BB: Kennett 12, Cape Central 1__

From start to finish, Kennett's offensive production couldn't be matched. Cape Central (8-18) got the game's opening run, but never again could the Tigers answer in the conference tourney opener.

The Tigers drew six walks, including a pair from Brayden Meade, but never once did they notch a hit in an abbreviated six-inning loss to a tough Kennett team.

Kennett hit two homers in the win, with Ashton Williams and Matthew Gardner each clubbing homers while Hayden Gilmore led the offense with two hits, both doubles, for four RBIs.

Gilmore also led the charge on the mound with 5.1 innings thrown, surrendering six walks and one run but never an earned one or a hit as Kenentt combined for a six-inning no-hitter.
