STARKVILLE, Miss. -- Southeast Missouri State University's baseball team got to experience the power first-hand of one of the elite programs in the country on Tuesday.
Mississippi State didnt' disappoint, demonstrating its might with a 13-3 victory over the Indians.
Brooks Bryan and Rob Hauswald each belted home runs in Mississippi State's 14-hit assault on three Indian pitchers. Each finished with three RBI.
Mississippi State (2-2) broke the game open from the start, scoring six-first inning runs off Southeast starter Talley Haines (1-1). The first six batters reached base safely and came around to score. Mississippi State added two runs in the second for an 8-0 lead.
Haines was touched for nine hits and nine earned runs in three innings. He was followed to the mound by Justin Buck and Lanson DeBrock.
Southeast scored (2-4) two of its runs in the third inning, but Mississippi State countered with one run in the bottom of the inning, three in the sixth and one more in the seventh for a 13-2 lead. The Indians scored their final run in the ninth.
Bryan finished with three hits for Mississippi State while Richard Lee also banged out three.
Brian Wise (1-0) limited Southeast to five hits over six inning. Steve Goodman doubled for one of Southeast's seven hits on the game.
