MEMPHIS -- Southeast Missouri's baseball squad saw Memphis score three runs in the first inning and went on to drop its season opener 8-3 Saturday afternoon.

While the Indian offense was eventually able to account for the three-run inning, Memphis added another three runs in the sixth and two more in the eighth.

Southeast starter Dave Siboda suffered the loss, allowing six hits in five innings. He struck out six and walked three. Five of the runs were scored off reliever Jason Swearingen, who only gave up two in three innings, but hit three batters.

Memphis outhit Southeast eight to six. Jeff Bebej accounted for two of Southeast's hits, while No. 2 hitter Steve Goodman scored two of the Indians' three runs.

Southeast opened the game with a run in the top of the first, but didn't score again until pushing across single runs in the eighth and ninth innings.

Southeast caps its season-opening series today with a 1 p.m. game against the Tigers.
