MEMPHIS -- Late inning rallies continued to haunt Southeast Missouri's baseball team on Tuesday as Memphis scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to emerge with a 6-5 victory.
Southeast took a 3-1 lead into the bottom of the seventh, but two two-run homers helped put the Tigers out front.
The first came off Lanson DeBrock (0-1) after a leadoff walk. After a bunt single and a walk, Chad Bogenpohl relieved. A fielder's choice gave Memphis a 4-3 lead and with two out Memphis belted its second home run of the inning for a 6-3 advantage.
Southeast responded with a one-out two-run homer in the top of the ninth inning by Charlie Marino to cut the lead to 6-5. After Memphis changed pitchers, Darin Kinsolving walked, but the runner was stranded as Robert Kern struck out and Kyle Yount flied out to end the game.
Southeast took a 2-0 lead in the second inning, but ultimately left the bases loaded. The lead grew to 3-0 in the fifth when Jeremy Johnson belted a solo home run. Memphis got on the board in the bottom of the fifth with a single run.
On the game, Southeast stranded 10 runners to Memphis' four.
Steve Lowe and Yount each had two hits for the Indians, who outhit Memphis 8 to 7. Johnson and Marino both finished with two RBIs.
Four Southeast pitchers combined to strike out 11 Tigers. Starter Jason Swearingen fanned five in three innings of one-hit pitching; Ryan Spille allowed three hits in two innings while fanning four; DeBrock allowed two hits in one inning and walked two; and Bogenpohl struck out two in two innings and allowed one hit.
