PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- One week after falling in the championship game of the SEMO Classic, Meadow Heights claimed the eight-team Perryville Tournament with a three-set victory over Fredericktown on Saturday.
Meadow Heights improved to 16-1 on the season with a 15-12, 12-15, 15-11 victory over Fredericktown.
"It took a lot from my team to pull through and win it," said Meadow Heights coach Erin Hoffman.
In the championship match, Emily Hartman had eight kills and 11 digs, Jessica Bollinger had eight kills and 12 digs and Tessa Bollinger had seven kills and 11 digs. Jami Fulton dished out 33 assists.
Meadow Heights went 6-0 in pool play before defeating St. Vincent 15-1, 15-9 in the semifinals.
In pool play, the Lady Panthers beat Perryville 15-9, 15-4; outlasted Owensville 17-15, 16-6; and topped Fredericktown 15-2, 15-8.
Cape Central went 0-6 in pool play. The Lady Tigers lost 15-3, 15-3 to St. Vincent; lost 15-6-15-0 to Ste. Genevieve; and lost 16-14, 17-15 to Crystal City.
Perryville went 0-6 in pool play, also falling to Owensville 17-15, 15-6 and Fredericktown 15-2, 15-8.
Woodland JV tourney
MARBLE HILL, Mo. -- Scott City's JV team (7-3-3) captured the championship of the Woodland Tournament with a 15-10, 15-7 victory over Leopold.
Shanna Wadlington and Kelly Cook, all-tournament selections, led the Lady Rams with six and five kills, respectively.
Zalma defeated Woodland 15-8, 15-8 in the consolation match.
CROSS COUNTRY
FESTUS, Mo. -- Perryville's boys saw their top two runners finish 1-2 as he Pirates won the Festus High School-Bowles Invitational for the first time.
The Pirates' total of 59 points outdistanced runner-up Potosi, which had 86.
Perryville's Nathan Moore completed the course in 17:15 to edge teammate Jacob Schneider at 17:17.
Rounding out the team score were Kent Hadler (13th, 18:02), Tyson Rellergert (20th, 18:26) and Tim Chitwood (23rd, 18:39).
On the girls' side, Perryville's Katrina Bockhorn medaled by placing 11th in 21:44.

SOCCER
Murray Tournament
MURRAY, Ky. -- Notre Dame allowed two early goals to Owensboro (Ky.) in suffering its first loss of the season, a 3-2 setback.
Notre Dame (8-1-1) bounced back with a 3-0 victory over host Murray in the third-place game.
Against Owensboro, Notre Dame recovered from the 2-0 deficit on Tyler Cuba and Scott Wittenborn goals. Cuba scored late in the first half off an assist from Shane Kistner while Wittenborn scored unassisted four minutes into the second half to tie the game.
Owensboro only managed one shot on goal the entire second half, but made it count with seven minutes left in the game.
"We played poorly the first 20 minutes but dominated the next 60 minutes," said Notre Dame coach Brad Wittenborn.
In the second game, Nathan LeGrand sandwiched a pair of first-half goals around a Cuba tally. LeGrand's first goal came off a pass from Dustin Haupt. Cuba made it 2-0 off an assist from Dustin Tate. LeGrand then made it 3-0 as he deposited a pass from Wittenborn.
Cape Central 3, Fulton 2
ST. LOUIS -- Cape Central scored a pair of goals a minute apart in the second half to overcome a 2-1 deficit at St. Louis Soccer Park.
Cape Central (6-5) traded first-half goals with Fulton as Jon Mark Thompson netted the Tiger goal seven minutes into the game off a pass from Art Pilsner.
Fulton moved ahead 2-1 eight minutes into the second half on a penalty kick, but the Tigers countered 18 minutes later as Whit Lynn sent a Chris Jones pass into the net. One minute later, Thompson scored the game-winner as Jordan Duncan assisted on the play.
Cape Central's JV (4-1) beat Fulton 9-0 as Heath Orr scored three goals and assisted on two others. Calen Wills added a pair of goals and an assist.
SOFTBALL
Jackson Tournament
JACKSON, Mo. -- Notre Dame held off Jackson 3-2 in the championship game of the Jackson Tournament.
The win capped off a perfect 4-0 day for the Lady Bulldogs. Jackson finished the day at 3-1.
Amber Walter picked up the win for Notre Dame, allowing five hits in seven innings. Two of the Jackson hits came in the seventh inning as the Lady Indians closed the gap to 3-2 with two out on an RBI double by Kelly Beasley. Walter retired the final batter on a groundout for the win.
Ashley Snell pitched two innings and suffered the loss for Jackson. Notre Dame scored a single run in the top of the first and two in the second.
Jackson had single runs in the sixth and seventh.
Notre Dame reached the title game with a 7-2 win over Perryville, an extra-inning win over Seckman and a 5-4 victory over Cor Jesu.
Jackson advanced with a 5-0 win over St. Clair, a 4-0 shutout win over Hannibal and a 6-5 victory over Lutheran South.
Cape Central (12-5) allowed just one run in going 2-1 in tournament play. The Lady Tigers defeated Kelly 4-0 in the consolation championship.
Cassie Gross, a hard-luck loser earlier in the day, held Kelly to just three hits in picking up the win. Tricia Klipfel had two of Cape Central's six hits. Sarah Muench added a single and two RBIs.
