JUPITER, Fla. -- The Florida Marlins scored an unearned run in the eighth inning Thursday and defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 2-1 in exhibition play.
St. Louis third baseman Jolbert Cabrera committed an error on a ball hit by former Cardinals outfielder John Gall to put the go-ahead run on base, and Alejandro De Aza, who was 3-for-4, doubled home pinch-runner Alex Sanchez.
De Aza is hitting .387 this spring.
The game featured strong showings by the aces for both teams. The Marlins' Dontrelle Willis pitched 6 innings, allowing just three hits and no runs. He struck out five and walked two.
"I expect a lot out of myself," Willis said. "I've been feeling strong all spring."
The Cardinals' Chris Carpenter allowed four hits and one earned run over six innings.
