Whit Lynn and Trey Willis hooked up twice in Central's 3-0 boys' soccer win Tuesday over Jackson.
Lynn scored at the 26-minute mark on a cross from Willis, then again on another long cross from Willis at the 59-minute mark.
It took Aaron Bornstein just 12 minutes to score the first goal of the game and the season on a head ball from Bryan Ross.
Aaron Mystedt recorded the shutout. Jackson has not scored on Central in three games dating back to last year.
Central's junior varsity lost 1-0.
VOLLEYBALL
Leopold 15-15, Chaffee 1-9
MARBLE HILL, Mo.--Senior Holly Jansen and junior Wendy Vandeven led the way for Leopold in its opening match Tuesday at the Woodland Invitational Tournament as the Wildcats defeated Chaffee 15-1, 15-9.
Jansen finished the match with eight kills and six blocks, while Vandeven added 19 assists and six aces. Tasha Thele and Courtney Wesbecher had three kills each.
Woodland lost the opener on its home court, 15-8, 15-12 to Zalma. Andrea Myers had four digs and seven points while Dana McClain added two aces despite the loss.
In other games Tuesday, Bell City beat Jackson's junior varsity 15-4, 15-7 and Greenville held off Oak Ridge 13-15, 15-11, 16-14.
Bloomfield 15-15, Central 4-5
Central christened its new volleyball facilities with a loss to Bloomfield. Central was able to win their first ever game in their new gymnasium however 15-9. They lost the following matches 15-4 and 15-5.
The Central junior varsity also lost to Bloomfield 2-1. But, just like varsity won their first match then slipped in the remaining two 15-8 and 16-14. Individual statistics were not available for either match.
Scott City 15-15, Charleston 10-8
SCOTT CITY, Mo. -- Sidney Bayer and Shana Wadlington helped Scott City (1-0) start the season strong against Charleston. Both had three kills and Bayer had three aces.
Scott City's JV won 15-6, 15-9.
Kingston 15-15, Marquand 8-8
MARQUAND, Mo. -- Marquand fell to Kingston in its season opener.
Marquand's Katie Stroup had nine service points.
Crystal City 15-15, Meadow Heights 9-5
PATTON, Mo. -- Meadow Heights fell to 0-1 with its loss.
Meadow Heights was led by Rachael Welker, who put up two aces and 10 assists. Chelsea Bollinger added 24 digs and five kills, while Chasity Wilfong, brought up from the JV team for the game, had 21 digs in her varsity debut.
Jackson 15-11-15, St. Vincent 10-15-8
PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Jackson (1-0) began the season with a win. Jenna Leet led the Indians after serving 10 points in the third game to win the set.
Lindin Haas had 18 digs and Jennifer Mesey had seven kills. Courtney Vance and Katie Lohse had 10 assists each for Jackson.
Dani Emmendorfer led the St. Vincent offense in assists and also added six digs in its loss. Allison Prosp had seven kills whle Chelsey Brown added five kills and eight digs.
Jackson's JV lost 15-8, 10-15, 9-15.
TENNIS
Jackson 9, Caruthersv. 0
JACKSON, Mo. -- Jackson (2-0) had help from Kari Miinch and Kim Anderson to roll past Caruthersville. Anderson and Miinch lost just one game and both participated in singles and doubles matches.
In doubles play, Jackson lost only two games out of three matches played.
Jackson's JV won 3-1. Kalli Niswonger, Meagan Biel, and Chelsea Walker won in singles. Sarah Hinkebin and Jessica Drum won the only doubles match.
Sikeston 7, Chaffee 2
CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Chaffee fell to 0-2 despite solid play from No. 3 singles player Nicole Poe.
Poe won her singles match 8-6 and played a part in Chaffee's other victory, pairing up with Shannon Hampton to win the No. 2 doubles match 8-5.
Central 7, Poplar Bluff 2
Central won despite missing its No. 1 doubles team.
Brett Ford and Liz LaFoe put away Kassie Everett and Kelley Barks 8-5 in the closest match. Ford and LaFoe won both of their singles matches 8-6 each.
Julie Zill won both of Poplar Bluff's matches in singles and doubles.
Central's JV won 10-6.
SOFTBALL
Delta 13, Twin Rivers 1
DELTA, Mo. -- Delta cruised to a five-inning victory on a one-hit pitching performance by Rebecca Cook.
Cook helped her own cause with a triple, as she went 1-2 at the plate with three RBIs. Andrea Dohogne and Jenny Dannenmueller each added two RBIs for Delta (1-2).
