Likens to direct Indians' offense

Southeast Missouri State University's football program filled its vacant offensive coordinator position on Monday, hiring Temple wide receivers coach Rob Likens.

Likens helped Temple's offense set several school records with an effective passing game. The Owls had a school record three players surpass 100 yards receiving in a triple-overtime game against Cincinnati this past season, and they netted a record 135 first downs via the pass for the season. Temple also set a school record with 859 offensive plays in a 1-11 campaign.

Likens held the position of receivers coach for six years at Temple. During his tenure, Likens coached current Washington Redskins receiver Sean Dillard, who caught a school-record 130 passes at Temple.

Likens was previously at North Alabama for six years, where he served as an assistant on three NCAA Division II national championship teams. He coached running backs and receivers at North Alabama

In college, Likens played three years at Mississippi State, earning a degree in math education. He obtained a master of science degree in Math Education from North Alabama in 1992.

Likens replaces Russ Martin, who was not rehired after serving as Southeast's offensive coordinator for four seasons. The Indians were 5-7 last season.

Likens will begin his duties at Southeast on March 1.
