The girls basketball performances by the Delta Bobcats, under coach Randy White and assistant Gary Poyner, in the Mizzou Arena in Columbia were thrilling, beginning with an upset of Meadville to a never-quit effort in the championship game against Northeast (Cairo).

The elements of teamwork were apparent.

Best of luck to the seniors — Sara Blattel, Alison Burger, Rebecca Cox, Brittni Deprow, Amanda Drew, Sarah Keys and Jessica Kidd. May all of you maintain a high level of excellence.

For the returning players — Jodi Menz, Amanda Seabaugh and Taylor Smith — may your offseason work be dedicated to earning the 2009 Class 1 state championship.

Congratulations to the Delta players, statisticians and coaching staff on being one of the top two Class 1 girls basketball teams in Missouri. These team members should be lauded by the Delta community and southeast Missouri region for being first class and setting examples of admirable character, which resonated loudly during their stay in Columbia.

Best wishes for continued success to the Delta Bobcats in the classroom and on the court.

KATE HARRY and JEREMY COPELAND, Show-Me Showdown hosts, Columbia, Mo.
