The Leopold volleyball team rallied to defeat Zalma 20-25, 25-14, 25-9 in the Mississippi Valley Conference tournament championship game Friday night at Saxony Lutheran. The Leopold volleyball team rallied to defeat Zalma 20-25, 25-14, 25-9 in the Mississippi Valley Conference tournament championship game Friday night at Saxony Lutheran.

Sophomores Cassi Jansen and Maddy Hutchings had nine and seven kills. Both had streaks in the final game which helped the Wildcats (18-4) defeat Zalma for the fifth time this year.

Hutchings had two kills and a block during one six-point spree when Leopold claimed a 13-8 lead. After Zalma scored a point on a service error, Hutchings and Jansen teamed up for a block, and Jansen had four kills in the 12-point streak that ended the match.

Also for Leopold, Cassie Seiler had 22 assists, Janice Jansen had nine digs, Kayla Trankle had seven digs and Desiree Arnzen had three aces.

Stoddard Co. Tournament

Dexter defeated top-seeded Bell City 25-22, 27-25, in the championship game at Bernie.

Megan Slagley had 10 digs and six kills for the Cubs (23-4-1). Jenny Lathum had nine kills and Codie Lancaster added 21 assists.

Third-seeded Advance claimed the third-place game with a 25-18, 25-7 win over No. 5 Bernie.

Angela Broshuis and Stephania Jordan of Advance (14-12-2) were selected to the all-tournament team.

New Salem 25 25 Westwood 23 11

New Salem improved to 11-2 with victory in its final home game. Mary Beth Poole and Sarah Green had eight kills apiece, and Laura Poole added nine assists.

BOYS SOCCER Jackson 1, Northwest 0

Jackson won at Cedar Hill, Mo. Josh LaForest (8-9-2) scored in the first 10 minutes with an assist from Brian Davidson. Tyler Holman had the shutout.
