PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. -- Justin Leonard shot a 5-under 67 Sunday to break the tournament record with a 24-under 264 as he beat Davis Love III and Chad Campbell by one stroke to win the Honda Classic for his eighth career tour victory.

Leonard, paired in the final round with his close friend Love for the first time since the 1997 PGA Championship at Winged Foot, rallied from two strokes down over the final 13 holes to win $900,000.

Love, who won the 1997 battle, took the lead for good with a close chip on the par-5 15th. He moved to 25 under with the 3-foot birdie putt, then basically closed out Love with another up-and-down on the par-3 16th.

LPGA: Wendy Doolan shot a 5-under-par 65 and won the LPGA Tour's season-opening Welch's-Fry's Championship in Tucson by three strokes.

Doolan earned $120,000 with her score of 21-under 259.

CHAMPIONS: Tom Purtzer rolled in a 58-foot eagle putt on the final hole to win the SBC Classic over Gil Morgan, his first victory on the Champions Tour.

Purtzer's eagle finished off a final round 4-under 68. He had a 36-hole total of 9-under 135 after rain washed out Saturday's play and cut the tournament in San Clarita, Calif., from 54 holes. He earned $225,000.

Morgan, who three-putted for bogey on the final hole, shot a 71 and finished at 136.
