CHAFFEE -- Jackson High's baseball team took advantage of Chaffee's youth and blasted the host Red Devils 13-0 in five innings Tuesday.
While Jackson's bats were very productive, the Indians' starting pitcher, Christopher Leimer, was just as hot, and coach Sam Sides said Leimer had his best outing of the season.
"Chaffee had trouble putting the bat on the ball," Sides said. "This was by far Christopher's best game of the season."
Leimer went the distance, allowing just one hit, walking three and striking out 10 in only five innings.
Jackson improved to 3-2. Chaffee, which starts five sophomores and a freshman, fell to 1-3.
Offensively for Jackson, Todd Wessel had a three-run homer and five RBIs, Travis Stevens went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Jarod Suedekum went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and Zane McClard went 2-for-3 with three RBIs.
Jackson will play at Fredericktown today while Chaffee visits Delta.
Kelly 4, Dexter 3
BENTON -- Kelly handed visiting Dexter its first loss of the season Tuesday.
Kelly (2-2) scored two runs in the first and two in the second. Dexter (2-1) made a late charge and scored two in the fifth and one in the seventh.
Denver Stuckey earned the win. He went the distance, allowing one earned run on five hits while striking out nine.
Stuckey and Justin Vetter both had two hits. Vetter had a two-run triple in the first inning.
Oak Ridge 7, Leopold 3
OAK RIDGE -- Matt Pruesser struck out 15 to lead Oak Ridge past visiting Leopold Tuesday.
Pruesser allowed four hits and one walk.
Oak Ridge (2-3) had 10 hits, led by Darrin Hahs with three and Aric Curry with two. Mike McCall had two RBIs.
Advance 7, Bernie 6
ADVANCE --Chris Wallace had a two-run homer to lead Advance (3-1) past visiting Bernie Tuesday.
Shane Garner (1-0) earned the win by pitching the first four innings. Matt Welch hurled the last three frames to earn a save.
SOFTBALL
Notre Dame 19, Sikeston 3
SIKESTON -- Notre Dame claimed its first win of the season by pounding host Sikeston Tuesday.
The Lady Bulldogs (1-2) had 18 hits. Raelin Miller led the way with four, followed by Rachael Schlosser with three and Jill Huber with two.
Huber pitched all seven innings, allowing five hits.
Notre Dame visits Kelly today.
Advance 7-9, Bernie 6-2
ADVANCE -- Advance swept a doubleheader against visiting Bernie Tuesday to improve to 5-0.
Cassandra Williams was the winning pitcher in the first game and Ashley Hitt won the second.
In the opener, Stacy O'Hare had three hits, Julie Bagwell added two hits and three RBIs and Williams had two hits.
Bagwell and Hitt both had two hits in the nightcap.
GIRLS SOCCER
Jackson 2, Marion 0
JACKSON -- The Jackson Lady Indians scored their third shutout of the year Tuesday to improve to 3-2.
Julie Wunderlich scored in the first half and Jennifer Brown scored in the second half to secure the win.
In JV action, Jessica Spooler scored two goals to lead Jackson (1-0-1) to a 5-0 win over Marion.
TRACK AND FIELD
Central sweeps home meet
Cape Central dominated visiting New Madrid County Central Tuesday.
Central won every event in taking the girls meet 117-19. The boys also won handily 101-45.
Boys coach Jerry Dement said that Travis Cox ran very well in the 110-meter high hurdles and the 300 intermediate hurdles. Cox won the 110 hurdles in 14.81 seconds and the 300 hurdles in 39.9 seconds.
Girls coach Paula Watkins said that her 4x200-meter relay team of Tosha Smith, Elizabeth Kunz, Dianna Webb and Nichole Thiele ran well. The team won the event in one minute 47 seconds.
Central's teams will compete Saturday in the Jackson Invitatioinal.

Jackson girls nab second
POTOSI -- Jackson's Lady Indians finished second Tuesday in the nine-team Potosi Invitational. Jackson had 104 points, behind champion DeSoto's 164.
The Lady Indians had four first-place performances: by Natalie Essner in the 100, Kristen Woods in the shot put, the 4x100 relay team (Audrey Essner, Brandi Majka, Lindsay Walker, N. Essner) and the 4x400 relay team (Holly Collier, Majka, Megan Kuntze, Adriane King).
Jackson's boys will compete in the Potosi Invitational on Thursday.

GIRLS SWIMMING
Parkway West 111, Central 73
ST. LOUIS -- Parkway West won a dual meet over visiting Cape Central Tuesday, but there was a bright spot for the Lady Tigers.
The 200 freestyle relay team qualified for state with a first-place time of 1:49.92. Members of the relay are Jean Maguire, Laura Dombrowski, Jennifer Freeze and Grace Freeman.
Freeman and Courtney Maguire each won two individual events, Freeman the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle and Maguire the 100 breaststroke and 500 freestyle.
The loss dropped Central's record to 3-3 and up next for Central will be the Rock Wood Summit four-team meet Friday
