Late model racer Mike Abney of Viburnum, Mo., put on one of the best shows of the weekend, and it wasn't even in a feature event. Abney, racing in the dash event Friday, slid into and then on top of the guardrail along the back straightaway, taking out three billboards in the process. But not only did Abney bring his No. 11A car back onto the track, he continued right along in second place.
But the excitement didn't end there. Abney and Mike Hammerle crossed the finish side-by-side. It was first announced Hammerle won, but officials then signalled the victory lap to Abney. A check of the video tape was inconclusive, but following a meeting track officials Abney was announced the winner. Hammerle made up for it in the feature event, which he won. Abney was sixth. Chad Zobrist won the postponed late model event.
Doug Savage and Jeremy Greenwalt won in pro streets. Theran Pearl and Pete Koenig won in pure stocks.
