Defending champions Brenda Rendleman and Roberta Sentel are tied with two-time champions Sheree Simmons and Sissy Donahue after Wednesday's first round of the Lassies Classic at Cape Girardeau Country Club.

The two teams wrapped up the opening round of the two-lady scramble with an 8-under 62.

Rendleman and Sentel, a pair of Illinois natives, are making their second appearance in the annual tournament, which got its 38th edition underway on Wednesday.

They posted a five-shot victory over Simmons and Donahue at last year's Lassies Classic, finishing the second round with a 7-under 63.

The championship flight (62-71) will tee off at 1:30 p.m. today along with the A flight (72-75) and B flight (76-78).

The C flight (79-81), D flight (82-84) and E flight (85 and above) are scheduled to tee off at 8 a.m.
