The Cape Central Lady Tigers outscored Nerinx Hall 18-10 in the fourth quarter and won their fourth straight game, 50-43, over visiting Nerinx Hall on Saturday.
Katie Dougherty led Central (11-6) with 17 points -- with seven coming in the fourth quarter -- followed by Sara Hyslop with 11 and Alex Wieser with 10.
Central played four games in five days during the week and won all four.
Anna Sonderman scored 24 points to lead Nerinx Hall, but she only had six in the second half.
"The key was that we were able to shut her down in the second half and establish Katie Dougherty on the inside," said Cape Central coach Mark Ruark.
Kelly 66, E. Carter 60
ELLSINORE, Mo. -- Marissa Essner scored 25 points and Bridgett Riley poured in 24 as the Lady Hawks needed overtime to defeat the Lady Redbirds to improve to 17-1.
Riley hit two free throws with 20 seconds left to knot the score at 59, where it stood at the end of regulation.
The Lady Hawk led 31-28 at halftime, but trailed 42-39 going into the fourth. Kelly outscored East Carter 7-1 in the overtime period.
Perryville 60, St. Vincent 36
PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Jamie Amberger scored 18 points and Natalie Bohnert added 15 as the Lady Pirates rolled past St. Vincent.
Perryville jumped out to a 27-16 lead at halftime and outscored ST. Vincent 33-20 in the second half.
Amanda Richardet scored 12 for St. Vincent (5-9), while Danielle Sutterer scored 10.
Boys basketball
Perryville 59, St. Vincent 55
PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Perryville and St. Vincent waged an epic battle, but the Pirates won thanks to the momentum given by a rare four-point play.
The Pirates (12-7, 4-1 Jefferson County Conference) were up by three with 2:30 remaining when Thomas Barber was fouled in the act of making a 3-pointer. The play gave Perryville its biggest lead of the game, a seven-point advantage and the Indians couldn't recover.
Perryville, which trailed much of the game, was led in scoring by Barber's 13 points. The Pirates had four players with nine.
St. Vincent (11-4, 4-1) got 17 points from Tyler Wengert, while Mark Gotto added 11.
WRESTLING
Central wins tourney
DE SOTO, Mo. -- Cape Central's wrestling team continued its momentum Saturday, winning the eight-team De Soto Tournament with 135 1/2 points.
The title came on the heels of a dual win which secured the Tigers' first winning season in 17 years.
On Saturday, Central had seven medalists.
Hoss Hodges (135), Leland Woelk (145) and O.J. Turner (189) all took first place.
Dustin Ingram (119), Trever Duncan (152) and Nick Harter (171) all took second and Jamell Austin (160) took third.
"I'm proud of the guys," said Central coach Josh Crowell. "It was the first time we've won a tournament in I don't know how long. We got a great bunch of seniors and they're going out in style. Hopefully we can carry this momentum into district next Saturday."
North County took second with 126 points, followed by Windsor, Hillsboro, Poplar Bluff, Park Hills Central, De Soto and St. Clair.
Central's junior varsity took fourth out of 10 teams in the conference tournament at Jackson. Monroe Hicks (160), took first, Kenneth Lowe (152) took third and Matt Welker (103), Josh Poole (140) and Jason Poole (189) took fourth.
Jackson dominates JV tourney
JACKSON, Mo. -- The Jackson Indians had 11 finalists and 10 champions in the SEMO Conference wrestling tournament Saturday.
Jackson claimed the title with 244 points, while Farmington took second with 175 1/2.
The following Indian wrestlers took first places: David Sweeney (112 pounds), Ben Wachter (119), Cody Crites (125), Greg Ludwig (130), Matt Jackson (135), Ryan McCormick (145), Lance Berry (152), Cameron Lacy (160), Matt Kahle (171), Ronnie Maxwell (189) and Colby Lohmann (215).
Shawn Hinkebein took second at 140 pounds.
"We had a great tournament," said Jackson coach Steve Wachter. "When you have 11 in the finals, and 10 champs, you've had a great tournament."
SWIMMING
Central takes 10th
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Cape Central took 10th place among 16 teams with 116 points at the Springfield Invitational.
The 200 freestyle relay team of Jon Lowrance, Gabe Austin, Andrew Moreton and Sam Maguire took second place with a time of 1:36.71. The same quartet took ninth in the medley relay in 1:52.41.
Jon Lowrance took fourth place in the 100 breast stroke in 1:06.40, which was his best time of the season.
Sam Maguire took sixth in the 200 freestyle in 1:58.40 and Justin Hawkins' score of 259.70 in 11 dives was good enough for 12th.
Rockhurst took first place with a score of 376.
Chaminade 145, Notre Dame 40
ST. LOUIS -- Notre Dame's first-year swimming squad got an eye-opening experience as they took on one of the state's strongest swimming programs.
Jordan Kuper took the only first place for Notre Dame, winning the 200 individual medley in 2:23.84. The best the Bulldogs did in any other event was third.
