Cape Central's girls basketball team built a 20-point lead by halftime and cruised to a 56-30 victory over Charleston Monday night.

Courtney Haman was the game's lone player to break into double figures as she scored 10 points for the Lady Tigers.

Central led 18-10 after the first quarter and opened a 35-15 lead by halftime. The Lady Tigers outscored Charleston 21-15 in the second half.

Central improved to 10-5 with the victory.

"We pretty much we had them outmatched, but it was a good chance for everybody to play," said Cape Central coach Paula Watkins. "We only had one game last week, so it was a good way to get our week started as we go into the tough part of our schedule."

Kelly will visit Cape Central on Thursday.

Notre Dame 56, Delta 27

DELTA -- Notre Dame outscored Delta 19-3 in the first quarter and eased to victory Monday night.

Julie Martin and Jill Huber each scored 11 points for Notre Dame, which improved to 12-4.

"We basically came out and played pretty good the first quarter," said Notre Dame coach Jerry Grim.

Amanda Thompson led Delta with nine points.

Notre Dame visits Jackson on Thursday.

Kelly 59, Woodland 31

BENTON -- Kelly jumped out to a 20-6 first-quarter lead and cruised to a win over visiting Woodland on Monday.

For Kelly (13-4), Marissa Essner scored 15 points, Audrey Burford 13, Jennifer McNiell 10 and Tiffany Glastetter 10.

Woodland's Lindsey Allmon finished with a game-high 17 points.

Ste. Gen. 58, St. Vincent 44

STE. GENEVIEVE -- St. Vincent endured a cold-shooting first half and it proved its demise in a loss Monday night.

St. Vincent (7-9) netted just nine first-half points as it fell behind 30-9. The Squaws held a 35-28 scoring advantage in the second half.

"We tried to shoot outside the entire (first half) and couldn't hit a thing," said St. Vincent coach Terry Wengert. "We finally started taking it inside in the third quarter and started scoring."

Jessica Lakenan led St. Vincent with 19 points while Debbie Welker scored 12 and Fara Galati tallied 11. No other Squaw scored more than two points.

Scott City 67, Chaffee 26

CHAFFEE -- Scott City broke out to a 20-3 first-quarter lead on Chaffee and breezed to victory.

The Lady Rams led 35-8 at halftime.

Amy OBrien led the way with 19 points while Alaina Smith tallied 13 and Becca Gowin scored 10.

Scott City improved to 9-5 overall and 1-2 in Scott-Mississippi Conference play.

Boys Basketball

Oran 63, South Iron 57

POPLAR BLUFF -- Oran got 14 points from Billy Loper as the Eagles held on to defeat South Iron in a game played at Three Rivers Community College.

Travis Friga added 12 and Jarod Hamm finished with 10.

Oran (9-6) built a 14-4 lead in the first quarter and led 28-25 at the intermission. The Eagles took a 42-37 lead into the fourth quarter.

Freshman Basketball

NEW MADRID -- Cape Central's freshmen teams split with New Madrid on Monday.

In the `A' game, the Tigers' Chris Cole scored 16 points in Cape Central's 52-47 victory. In the `B' game, Rob Carr and Jewell Smith tallied 10 points apiece in Central's 40-39 loss.
