JACKSON -- Cape Girardeau Central High's girls soccer team continued its assault on the 1997 season Tuesday as the Lady Tigers knocked off host Jackson 2-0.

The Lady Tigers, who improved their record to 12-0, got a first-half goal from Ashley Skinner, with an assist from Emilee Atchley. Nichole Thiele scored in the second half, with Lori Bittle assisting.

Amy Harris earned the shutout in goal.

"It was a good game," said Central coach Tom Doyle. "Both teams had good chances and our goalie made some real good saves."

Jackson fell to 8-3-1. Said coach Bonnie Knowlan, "I was proud of my girls. We played really well."

Central's JV also claimed 2-0 win as Atchley scored both goals and Jennifer Daume assisted twice.

The Lady Tigers will host Ft. Zumwalt South Saturday at 11 a.m. at Shawnee Park. Jackson will play at Notre Dame Thursday.

Notre Dame 3, Poplar Bluff 1

POPLAR BLUFF -- Notre Dame continued its marked improvement from last year by winning at Poplar Bluff Tuesday.

The Lady Bulldogs improved to 8-7-1 with their second win over the Mules this season.

Jill Edwards, Stephanie Miller and Jessie Fluegge all scored for Notre Dame. Beth Essner had two assists while Jessica Lawrence added the other.

Although she didn't score, Jaymie Frank made her presence felt all game according to Notre Dame coach Jeff Worley.

"Jaymie played her best game of the season," said Worley. "She does everything for us in the middle of the field. She keeps everybody together for us."

BASEBALL

S. Pemiscot 4, Chaffee 1

CHAFFEE -- South Pemiscot scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning Tuesday to stun host Chaffee.

The Red Devils (5-11) had taken a 1-0 lead on a fourth-inning RBI single by Jeremy Yarbro.

Josh Hanlon pitched six strong innings for Chaffee before being removed after a leadoff walk in the seventh. Tommy Stidham was the loser.

"For six innings it's the best game we've played this year," said Chaffee coach Bruce Qualls. "But in the seventh we struggled. They got a leadoff walk and we made a couple of errors."

Chaffee will visit Oran Friday.

SOFTBALL

Notre Dame 13, St. Vincent 0

Jill Huber pitched a one-hitter as Notre Dame needed only five innings to romp at home Tuesday.

Huber stuck out 10 and walked three as the Lady Bulldogs improved to 6-4.

Notre Dame had eight hits by eight different players. Randi Senciboy had the only extra-base hit, a double.

The Lady Bulldogs will host Oak Ridge today.

TRACK

Poplar Bluff Invitational

The Jackson boys took first and the Lady Indians second in the eight-team Poplar Bluff Invitational.

The Indians won with a team score of 136, led by first-place finishes from Jeremy Kuntze (discus), Matt Hale (high jump) and Nathan Windeknect (triple jump). Charleston was second with 113 points.

Poplar Bluff won the girls meet with 174 points. Jackson totaled 168.

First-place winners for the Lady Indians were Sarah Stiegemeyer (1600), Adrian King (400), Amy Snell (discus), Christine Woods (shot put) and Kasie Jones (triple and high jumps).
