CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Cape Central's girls track team continued its dominance Thursday, winning the Carbondale quad meet by 68 points.
Central's girls took first with 129 points, followed by Carbondale with 61, Carterville with 39 and Herrin with 29.
On the boys' side, Central (82 points) took second place behind Carbondale (115).
Central's Dionna Webb once again took first places in all her events, the 100 (:12.47), 200 (:26.25) and long jump (17-10).
Heather Jenkins tossed the shot put 34-9 and hurled the discus 132-6 for first place finishes.
The Lady Tigers took firsts in all but two events.
Demetrius Totton had a strong showing for the boys team, taking first place in the 400 (:51.15) and the triple jump (42-6 1/2).
Ross Conner posted a personal best in the long jump with a leap of 21-7 for first place.
GIRLS SOCCER
Cape Central 7, Hillsboro 0
HILLSBORO -- The Lady Tigers trounced Hillsboro to improve to 3-1-1.
Central scored four goals in the first half as it breezed to victory. Amber Voerg led Central with two goals and an assist. Lori Bittle added a goal and an assist. The other goals were scored by Trisha Klipfel, Jessica Ham, Alyssa Holyfield. Assists went to Rebecca Hellrich and Alison Eaton.
The Lady Tigers' JV romped 6-0 behind three goals from Caitlin Bahn. Katie Huskey scored twice while Heather Hobbs had the other goal.
Jackson 10, De Soto 0
JACKSON -- Jackson notched its second straight win in emphatic fashion as the 10-goal mercy rule stopping the game came into play with about 17 minutes left.
Lacie Hodo scored four goals to lead the Lady Indians (2-2-2). Kerrie Gordon had three goals while Julie Wunderlich, Dana Wright and McKenzie Turley all added one. Wunderlich also had five assists.
Wednesday, Jackson had recorded its first win of the season with a 6-0 romp past Hillsboro. Wunderlich and Hodo each scored twice while Gordon and Wright added one goal each.
Goalkeeper Amanda King recorded both shutouts
Jackson's JV also posted a pair of shutouts, 9-0 against De Soto and 4-0 against Hillsboro.
Poplar Bluff 2, Notre Dame 1
POPLAR BLUFF -- Poplar Bluff built a 2-0 lead and held on to upend Notre Dame.
The Lady Bulldogs (1-5) got their lone goal from Michelle Hency, with an assist from Cyndi Cox.
Notre Dame's JV prevailed 3-0 behind two goals from Emily Essner and one from Meredith LeGrand.
BASEBALL
Kelly 16, Bloomfield 3
BENTON -- After being pounded in their first four games, the Hawks took their frustrations out on Bloomfield to notch their first win of the season. The contest was stopped in the fifth inning by the 10-run rule.
Kelly banged out 13 hits, with John Heuring, Justin Simpher, Brooks Heuring and Tyler Schlosser all getting two. B. Heuring drove in three runs while J. Heuring, Simpher and Schlosser all added two RBIs.
Garrett Stricker pitched all five innings, allowing three hits and one earned run while striking out five.
"Obviously it's a good win for us and hopefully it will give the kids some confidence," said Kelly coach Mike Scott.
Oak Ridge 14, Delta 13
OAK RIDGE -- After having several games rained out, Oak Ridge finally opened its season and the Blue Jays squeezed out a thrilling victory in a contest stopped after six innings by darkness.
Ben Fadler, Oak Ridge's third pitcher, got the victory. With the Blue Jays trailing, Fadler came on in the top of the sixth inning with the bases loaded and nobody out. Fadler got a double play and a strikeout to escape the jam, then the Blue Jays rallied in the bottom of the sixth.
Oak Ridge had 11 hits, two apiece by Jeff Cowan, Clayton Ruesler, Beau Morrison and Josh Morrison. Ruesler and B. Morrison both scored three runs.
Delta (0-3) got three hits each from Pat Lingo and Chuck McCoy, with Lingo belting a home run.
St. Pius 11, St. Vincent 8
PERRYVILLE -- In a game of three three-run homers, St. Pius came out on top.
Brandon Carroll hit a three-run homer for St. Vincent in the first, but it was countered by one for St. Pius in the bottom of the inning for a 3-3 tie.
St. Pius moved ahead for good in the second with a run and scored two runs in both the third and fourth innings for an 8-3 lead. Winning pitcherJeff Olds iced the game with another three-run shot in the fifth.
St. Vincent scored five times in the fifth to cut the lead to 11-8 but never got any closer.
GIRLS SWIMMING
Cape Central 96, Lutheran South 92
Mary Beth Owen and Jean Maguire each won two individual events to help lead the Lady Tigers to a thrilling victory.
The Lady Tigers (2-2 in duals) trailed until the meet's final event, but they finished first and third in the 400 freestyle relay to prevail.
Owen won the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke while Maguire captured the 200 individual medley and 100 freestyle.
Central's other individual winners was Sara Sprigg in diving.

Jackson wins triangular
FREDERICKTOWN -- Jackson fired a season-low score of 152 to win a triangular meet.
Host Fredericktown was second (169) while Notre Dame was last (176).
The Indians (4-0) had the individual medalists as Peyton Sims and Matt Litzelfelner each fired 1-over 37. Jackson's Brett McDowell and Kyle Perry each shot 40.
Notre Dame's scores were: Tim Buerck 40, Derek Welter 42, Lucas Klein 47, Ryan Hannah 47.
SOFTBALL
Delta 17, Oakridge 2
OAK RIDGE -- Rebecca Cook recorded nine strikeouts as the Lady Wildcats won in four innings.
Amy Wyckoff went 3-for-3 with a home run, a double and five RBIs. Other Delta standouts were Erin Cook, 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI, and Rebecca Below, who went 3-for-4 with two RBIs.
