Cape Girardeau Central High's girls soccer team broke open a close game with two second-half goals as the Lady Tigers blanked city rival Notre Dame 3-0 Tuesday night.

Amber Voerg scored a first-half goal, with an assist from Lori Bittle. In the second half, Amanda Hiler and Sarah Brown each scored, with Voerg and Carrie Eller providing assists.

Heather Hey earned the shutout as the Lady Tigers improved their record to 6-2-1 and dropped the Lady Bulldogs to 4-8.

Notre Dame won the JV game 1-0 as Emily Essner scored on a Sarah Unterreiner assist.

Jackson 2, Perryville 1

JACKSON -- Jackson won its third straight and handed Perryville just its second loss of the season.

The game was scoreless at halftime, but Jackson (5-3-2) got second-half goals from Dana Wright and Meghann Humphries (Lacey Hodo assisted) to open up a 2-0 lead.

Perryville (6-2-1) scored late in the game, Laura Klaus getting the goal and Britney Weibrecht assisting.

Jackson won the JV game 4-0.

BOYS GOLF

Jackson 151, Notre Dame 163

JACKSON -- After a tri-meet at Dexter got rained out, Jackson and Notre Dame got together for a dual, with the Indians coming out on top at Bent Creek Golf Course.

Jackson's Chris Pike was the medalist, shooting an even-par 36 in difficult conditions.

Peyton Sims followed with a 37 for Jackson, Matt Litzelfelner shot a 38 and Nathan Brown shot a 40.

Notre Dame's Tim Buerck led Notre Dame with a 37, followed by Derek Welter with 41, Nick Martin with 42 and Lucas Klein with 43.

St. Vincent 160, Festus 174

CRYSTAL CITY -- Craig Schumer fired a 2-over-par 38 on the front nine at Crystal Highlands to lead St. Vincent to a Jefferson County Conference victory.

St. Vincent (7-2, 5-1) had only a three-shot difference between its top four scores as John Paulus carded a 40 and Mark Gotto and Keith Pecan both shot 41s.

BASEBALL

Leopold 9, Bloomfield 5

LEOPOLD -- Lee Vandermierden belted a three-run homer as part of a five-run eighth inning as Leopold, playing the role of visitor in a make-up game, won in extra innings.

The three-run blast was the second of the game for Leopold (3-2) with Ashton James also hitting one in the third inning.

James pitched the first five innings and left with the game tied 4-4. The five-run eighth made a winner of Jason Van de Ven, who allowed just one hit in three innings of work. He struck out four and did not walk a batter.

Vandermierden and James both finished with three hits and three RBIs. Josh Van de Ven and Jason Van de Ven each had two hits.

Woodland 27, Delta 1

MARBLE HILL -- Woodland's top three batters, Ryan Bandermann, Danny Lincoln and Kyle Long, combined for 13 hits and 11 runs batted in as the Cardinals cruised.

Bandermann went 4-for-5 with two RBIs, Lincoln went 5-for-6 with five RBIs and Long went 4-for-5 with four RBIS.

Jeremy McCain went 4-for-5 with five RBIs for Woodland (3-2).

Luke Johnson was the winning pitcher. He went three innings and allowed just one hit and one run. He walked four and struck out three.

The Cardinals sent 17 batters to the plate in a 12-run second.

Robby Lemonds suffered the loss for Delta.

Oran 14, Oak Ridge 1

OAK RIDGE -- Garrett Cook blasted a first-inning grand slam to send Oran on its way to a five-inning victory.

Cook finished with six RBIs as Oran improved to 6-1.

Adam Friga, Nathan Seyer and winning pitcher Philip Seyer all added home runs. Adam Friga, Ryan Dennis, Travis Friga, Nathan Seyer and Ryne Wood all finished with two hits as the Eagles accumulated 14 overall.

Philip Seyer pitched three hitless innings before giving way to Adam Friga, who allowed just one hit in two innings. Both pitchers posted four strikeouts.

Beau Morrison was the losing hurler for Oak Ridge (4-4). He worked all five innings.

SOFTBALL

Oran 26, Oak Ridge 0

OAK RIDGE -- Mistie Senciboy hurled Oran's second straight no-hitter as the Lady Eagles rolled to a three-inning victory.

Senciboy walked three and struck out five.

Jennifer Laws led the offense with a 3-for-3 performance and 5 RBIs.

Ashley Dirnberger, Senciboy and Sara Heisserer all went 2-for-3. Dirnberger collected three RBIs.

Leopold 22, Bloomfield 1

LEOPOLD -- The Lady Wildcats improved to 4-2 on the season with an easy win.

Melinda Trankle picked up the win, going four innings. She allowed two hits and three walks while striking out one.

Ashley Jansen went 3-for-4 with three runs batted in, Sarah Gowen was 3-for-5 with 4 RBIs, Holly Jansen was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Melissa Thele went 1-for-2 with a grand slam.

TRACK & FIELD

Cape Central teams sweep

ANNA, Ill. -- Cape Central's boys and girls rolled to titles in a meet hosted by Anna-Jonesboro.

The Tigers had 91 points while A-J was second with 51. The Lady Tigers had 152 points to 78 for A-J.

One of the highlights for Cape Central was a career-best performance by Dionna Webb in the 100-meters as she won in 12.27 seconds.

Results of the meet are in Scoreboard' on 2B.

GIRLS SWIMMING

Lafayette 136, Cape Central 50

Junior Mary Beth Owen broke her own school record in the 500 freestyle, providing one of the few bright spots as the Lady Tigers fell to state power Lafayette in a dual meet.

Cape Central, which recognized its five seniors in their final home meet, fell to 5-5 on the season.

One of those seniors, Jean Maguire turned in one of the Lady Tigers' two first-place finishes, winning the 100 freestyle in 58.38 seconds.

Owen broke the school record in the 500 last Friday and took another four seconds off that time Tuesday, winning the event in 5:03.68.

Cape Central lost a number tight matches as Dexter prevailed.

"It was a tough loss," said Central coach Bud Craven, whose squad is now 5-3 "Dexter's got a tough team. They're all seniors."

Central's JV improved to 8-0 with an 11-2 win.

Cape Central's eighth-grade girls track team placed fourth in a meet won by Farmington.

Farmington finished with 98 points and was followed by St. Genevieve (64), Park Hills (51) and Cape Central (34).
