The Scott City softball team returned to their winning ways in a big way by dispatching East Prairie 15-1 in five innings on Friday, March 22, in Scott City, Mo.

The Lady Rams opened the season with two convincing wins over Greenville and Delta. They then lost to Anna-Jonesboro and Kennett on the road before rebounding against East Prairie.

“Coming into this knowing that it was a pretty big conference game for us, it was a good win to go in the weekend,” said Scott City head coach Morgahn Petersen.

The Eagles took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI double by Chloe Jackson. However, the Rams poured on the runs as soon as they got a chance to bat.

The Rams took the lead on an inside the park home run by Mackenzie Lawless in the bottom of the first, putting Scott City up 2-1.

“So far this season, she's been a big asset,” Peterson said. “She’s got a couple different roles when she's not on the mound. She pops in a couple of different places and she is a really good leader to have on the team. She makes things happen at the plate and she's a tough out.”

After a five-run first inning, the Rams scored six more runs in the second inning highlighted by a two-run double by Summer Wagner and a two-run triple by Gracie Conklin.

Alyssa Dirden went 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and three runs scored. She also pitched a complete game on the mound, allowing only one run on five hits with four strikeouts.

“She did great,” Peterson said. “That changeup was really working for her today. We're kind of getting her back into the swing of things of starting with being out with a knee injury for a year. That was her second outing this year and she's really settling in pretty good for us.”

Scott City travels to Portageville on Monday, March 25.
