KENNETT, Mo. - The Kennett Lady Indians (14-5) in the first game of a Saturday double header defeated the East Carter Lady Redbirds (6-5) 11-2 at Indian Park.

The Lady Indians entered this weekend's competition hoping for a better fate than last weekend's. The squad entered the first game of the double header with a record of 13-4, including a heartbreaking loss to the Doniphan Donettes 6-4 on Thursday.

Their opponent Saturday morning was an East Carter County squad that had won their last two games easily at Winona and Ste. Genevieve 25-0 and 14-3 respectively, and entered the game at 6-4.

The starting pitcher for the Indians was Emma Claire Bodkin and the starter for East Carter was Karla Ochoa.

East Carter in the top of the first got a one-out single from Ochoa, who stole second base.

Ochoa's hit was followed by junior Anna Crowley, who reached on a Lady Indians error. Crowley stole second on a wild pitch, setting up runners at second and third with only one out.

But Bodkin bowed up and struck out freshman Zelma Cooley and coaxed Ciara Duckett to fly out to center field, ending the threat and the top of the first.

Kennett took advantage of that momentum swing by sending seven batters to the plate in the bottom of the first.

A one-out single by junior Lauren Barton led the pack. Barton stole second and was followed by senior Hadley Wilson's first of three RBI singles. Wilson's at bat was followed by freshman Lynnley Patterson's two out RBI and the score was 2-0, Kennett.

A single by Kynsly McCaig kept the inning going, but a groundout by Bodkin, ended the chance of a bigger inning and the Lady Indians wrapped the inning stranding two.

Bodkin kept East Carter batters at bay in innings two and three by sending down six in a row.

The Lady Indians rewarded her efforts when Wilson, with one out in the third, began a hitting barrage of five hits in a row by herself, freshman Avery Payne, Patterson, McCaig and Bodkin, resulting in four big runs and a 6-0 lead after three innings.

Bodkin retired eight in a row entering the top of the fourth when lefty Crowley lofted a high-fly ball to right center that got up in the right to left wind and cleared the fence by several feet.

Bodkin retired the next three of four batters to end the fourth and found the Lady Indians holding on to a 6-1 lead.

Kennett kept the pressure on when Hanley led off the fourth with a walk followed by a single by Barton.

With two on, Wilson blasted a three-run homer over the left field fence, extending the lead to 9-1.

Hadley finished the game going 3-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored.

Bodkin earned the win pitching seven innings, allowing four hits, two runs (one earned), and struck out eight.

Ochoa took the loss going four innings, allowing nine runs on 11 hits.

Kennett had the nightcap of the doubleheader at 3 p.m. facing Saint Genevieve.The Lady Indians are on the road Monday and take on Rivercrest at Wilson, Ark.
