JACKSON -- Jackson's girls used a second-half rally to overcome a slow start and defeated Nerinx Hall 34-30 Saturday afternoon.Jackson (12-2) found itself trailing 10-1 in the opening minutes of the game and saw Nerinx Hall take a 20-14 lead into intermission.The Lady Indians, led by a game-high 16 points from Shannon Perry, caught Nerinx in the third quarter. Nerinx netted just two points in the period as Jackson took a 25-22 lead into the fourth quarter."We finally started shooting the ball better," said Jackson coach Ron Cook.Jackson will visit Perryville on Monday.
Cape Central 59Scott City 45SCOTT CITY -- Nicole Thiele scored 21 points and Laura Lukens tallied 19 points as Central pulled away from Scott City in the second half.Cape Central (12-2) took a 24-17 lead into halftime, but put the game away in the third quarter when it outscored Scott City 23-6."I thought we played a good game and I thought Scott City played a good game," said Cape Central coach Paula Watkins. "It was just a seven-point game at halftime. I think our athletic ability took over in the third quarter and we went on a run."Sara Emerson scored 20 points and pulled down nine rebounds for Scott City (10-4).Central won the JV game 43-29. Kim Aslinger poured in 20 points for Cape Central while Alaina Smith scored a team-high 13 points for Scott City.
New Madrid 51Notre Dame 41NEW MADRID -- Only three Lady Eagles found the scoring column Saturday, but the threesome did enough damage to defeat Notre Dame.Tamekia Tipler did the majority of the destruction for New Madrid (12-2) with 33 points."The Tipler girls can shoot the ball from about anywhere, but we had 26 turnovers and that didn't help," said Notre Dame coach Jerry Grim, who saw his team fall to 10-5.New Madrid Led 24-22 at halftime, before outscoring Notre Dame 12-5 in the third period for a 36-27 advantage.April Schlosser led Notre Dame with 17 points and Melissa Maurer added 13.Notre Dame will host Delta on Monday.
Perryville 64Chester (Ill.) 47PERRYVILLE -- Perryville outscored visiting Chester, Ill., in each quarter and cruised to a win Saturday.Dena Schumer had 20 points, April Watts 13 and Renee Kaempfe 11. Perryville improved to 11-5.Jennifer Knowle had 23 points for Chester, which went only 7 of 23 from the free throw line as a team.
Scott County 72Charleston 53Ashley Whitson scored a game-high 26 points as Scott County Central defeated Charleston Saturday.Lawanna Wiley answered with 24 points for Charleston (7-8), but Shameka Suggs, 12 points, was the only other Lady Blue Jay to finish in double figures.Jamie Sadler added 13 points for Scott County while Vontrice Blackmon tallied 12.The Bravettes built a 28-17 lead by halftime.

Perryville 39Chester (Ill.) 33PERRYVILLE -- The Pirates overcame a slow-down approach by Chester to record its 14th consecutive victory Saturday.Perryville (18-1) received a game-high 16 points from Scott Kassell."We talked about it all year that we need to get off to a good start," said Perryville coach Rick Francis. "A couple shots didn't drop early for us and they were able to score the first couple of buckets and we spent the rest of the half trying to chase them. They were quicker than us."Perryville scored just four points in the second quarter and trailed 15-12 at halftime. The Pirates held a 7-2 scoring advantage in the third quarter for a 19-17 lead.Perryville hit on six of eight free throws in the fourth quarter and 12 of 15 for the game."I have to give Chester credit," said Francis. "They played smart and shot the ball very well. On the other hand, I have to give credit to our kids for keeping their composure."Jackson will visit Perryville on Friday.
Shawnee prevailsULLIN, Ill. -- Derrick Houston scored 22 points as Shawnee Community College downed Florissant Valley 97-87.Shawnee (4-14) will host Springfield College today at 1 p.m.
Boys swimming and divingCape Central 134Wentzville 40Cape Central's boys swimming and diving team beat Wentzville, a first-year program, easily at home Saturday.Central had two new state-qualifying times and a school record. Jason Owen's 1:53.10 in the 200-meter freestyle was a state cut time, as was Matt Younghouse's :50.81 in the 100-meter freestyle.Also, diver Nick Sterrett set a school record with a 228.00.
