VAN BUREN — Despite a close first few minutes of the game, the Doniphan Donettes took care of the Liberty Lady Eagles 75-48 to claim the Lady Dawg Classic at Van Buren High School.

Doniphan head coach Adam Epps is proud of the effort he got from his team during the first week of the season.

“I think it gives them a little boost of confidence,” he said.

The Donettes cruised in its two games in Van Buren, winning both games by more than 25 points but met a familiar foe in Liberty for the final. A team they’ve played the last three seasons in the Lady Dawg Classic and four of the last five tournaments as the Donettes were 2-2 in their last four meetings against the Lady Eagles.

“We play each other a lot,” he said. “They got us last year at their place. We got them in this tournament. It’s a good game. I like playing them. They’re tough, they’re physical and we need that.”

Doniphan’s Carsyn Hagood led the way for Adam Epps and his squad as she had 29, an even better night than her high school debut on Tuesday when she scored 27 to lead the Donettes.

Kenzie Redus also finished in double digits for the Donettes as she had 10 points.

In all, Doniphan had eight players with baskets in the victory.
