A Poplar Bluff Mules football player is taking a different route to continue his career on the gridiron.

Offensive lineman and defensive tackle Kayson King signed his letter of commitment as a preferred walk-on last Friday with Southeast Missouri State University.

King made quite the impact finishing during his final season with the Mules, finishing All-Conference on both sides of the ball and notching All-State as a defensive lineman.

Though excited to start training for the next level, King reflects on his time as a Mule.

“This season was truly fun for me,” King said. “I feel like everyone showed up to play hard every game. We fought through a tough early season, but we finished strong.”

As a player that was required to play both sides of the ball, King is looking forward to playing on whatever side the team needs him to play and understands the work it will take to flourish as a collegiate player.

“SEMO recruited me to play on the offensive side of the ball primarily,” he said. “I’m supposed to receive their weight lifting program soon, and I plan to hit the weight room hard.”

King plans to enroll early in summer school to begin working out with his new teammates.
