The Kelso Fastpitch men's softball team closed its regular season by winning the Midwest Fastpitch Invitational for the first time, defeating the Kansas City Outlaws 7-0 in Sunday's championship game in St. Louis.

Kelso improved to 23-6 in claiming its fourth title in six tournaments this season. The squad next will compete in the North American Fastpitch Association A Major World Series in Des Moines, Iowa, on Aug. 8-11.

Kelso finished fourth in the tournament in 2011 and 16th in 2012.

"We have a little better team this year and hopefully we'll go up there and have a good showing," Kelso's Jerry Wolsey said.

Wolsey said the World Series will have at least 40 teams in the field.
