Freshman Casey Kern threw a two-hitter and the Kelly girls softball team rallied with a run in each of the last three innings to beat host Central 3-1 on Thursday.
Kern allowed one walk and struck out three and pitched around two errors. She allowed a run in the second inning, which stood up until Kelly scored one in the fifth against Sirena Watkins.
For Kelly (2-1), Brittany Ponder was 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Katie Moore had an RBI triple. Kelly had six hits and took advantage of two Central errors.

Notre Dame banged out 35 hits in a pair of lopsided wins on the opening day of the Notre Dame Softballfest.
The Bulldogs knocked off Delta 18-0 in four innings behind 13 hits. Miranda Schlosser allowed just two hits and struck out two for the win.
Erika Reinagel, Cortney Ostendorf, Bailey Reutzel and Eden Ellison had two hits apiece for Notre Dame (6-0).
Notre Dame beat Sikeston 23-0 in five innings. Schlosser led a 22-hit attack with four hits including a double. Reutzel added three hits and six RBIs on a double, single and home run.
Paris Burger and Kristain Burger each had three hits, and Reinagel, Cortney Ostendorf and Lindsey Ostendorf had two hits apiece.
Beth Schnurbusch allowed three hits and struck out four for the win.
Delta dropped its second game of the day 10-0 in five innings to Park Hills Central. Kaci Menz took the loss.

Poplar Bluff scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to pull off the win.
Jackson allowed six unearned runs in the game and fell to 1-3. The Indians outhit Poplar Bluff 11-7.
Chelsea McDowell had three hits for Jackson, and Jessica Pitts and Kelci Keith had two apiece. Daral Mangles allowed seven hits and struck out two in the loss.

Notre Dame dropped its second match to open the season, but Bulldogs coach Tara Stroup was pleased with her team's performance nonetheless.
"We played really, really well again," said Stroup, whose team had lost its season opener against Festus.
For the Bulldogs, Claire Goodson had eight kills. Kaitlyn Scheeter added six kills, Allison Toole had five kills and six blocks, Destiny Dirnberger had five kills, and Meredith Medlin had five kills, 36 assists and four aces. Emily Huber added 28 assists, and Amanda Toole had six blocks.
Notre Dame (0-2) hosts its Volleyballfest today and Saturday.

Jackson improved to 2-0 with a road win.
Natalie Koeper led the Indians with 17 digs, and Lucy Hartmann added 10 digs and six kills. Leslie Gordon had five kills, and Amanda Peiffer added nine blocks.
Jackson will travel for the first time to the Carbondale Tournament on Saturday.

Oran opened its season with a home win.
Cassie Graviett led the Eagles with seven kills, and Courtney Nenninger had three aces.

Leopold and Meadow Heights won tight matches to advance to tonight's Woodland Tournament finals.
Leopold outlasted Zalma 18-25, 25-10, 25-20, and Meadow Heights knocked off Woodland 25-18, 24-26, 25-16.
The championship game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. tonight.
Oak Ridge knocked off Chaffee 25-16, 25-21 to reach the consolation finals. Oak Ridge will face Greenville.
Notre Dame Soccerfest
Jackson and Notre Dame recorded first-round victories in the Notre Dame Soccerfest, while Central fell into the losers bracket.
Jackson edged Sikeston 3-2 in overtime, and Notre Dame topped Marion, Ill., 4-0.
St. Pius will play Carbondale, Ill., at 5:30 p.m. today, and Jackson will face Notre Dame at 7:30 p.m. today in the other semifinal.
Carbondale defeated Poplar Bluff 4-0.
Cameron Keller scored two goals for Jackson in its win, including the game-winner three minutes into overtime. Chris Shelton also scored for Jackson on a penalty kick. Spencer McCormick added two assists for the Indians (1-0).
Notre Dame (1-0) scored two goals in each half for its win against Marion (2-3). Abe Dirnberger scored two goals for the Bulldogs, while Kirk Boeller and Jason Delgado each added a goal and an assist. Jordan Buchheit and Andrew Buelow also had assists for Notre Dame.
Central (0-1) fell in the opening game of the tournament, 2-1 to St. Pius. Tyson Whiteside scored the lone goal for the Tigers on a penalty kick midway through the second half.
Central will face Poplar Bluff at 4:30 p.m. today.
Saxony Lutheran ran its junior varsity runners at the Chester Invitational and finished fourth out of six teams.
Scott Schwiesow finished ninth in 20:40. Andrew Etzold was 14th (21:03), Ross Gage was 17th (21:50), Casey Hemmann was 24th (24:01), and Drew Hillis was 25th (24:16).
Deanna Dippold led Saxony's girls with a fifth-place finish in 24:58. Alisha Bohnert was 21st in 35:46.
