CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Kelly entered the Scott-Mississippi Conference boys basketball tournament as only the No. 5 seed, but that hasn't prevented the Hawks from reaching the final.

In what can only be termed as a mild upset, Kelly knocked off top-seeded Oran 76-64 in Thursday night's first semifinal at Chaffee High School. In the second semifinal, No. 2 seed Scott City rolled past No. 6 Delta 76-37.

Scott City will put its 10-5 record on the line against 7-8 Kelly in tonight's 8 o'clock championship game. At 6:30, Scott City and Chaffee will meet for the junior varsity championship.

Kelly got big games from both Michael Romas and Josh Glastetter in the victory over Oran. Romas pumped in 27 points, including nine in the fourth quarter.

Glastetter scored 22 points, 11 coming in the opening period. Barry Ziegler added 10 points for the Hawks.

Oran, which fell to 9-5, got 22 points from Adam Friga, 15 from Ryne Wood and 12 from Nathan Seyer.

The Hawks led 19-13 after one quarter and 40-34 at halftime. Oran pulled to within 56-52 entering the final period but Kelly pulled away down the stretch.

"It was a good win for us," said Kelly coach Nick Lanpher. "We've still got a long way to go, but we're really coming on. All the boys are doing a good job."

Scott City led Delta just 16-13 after one quarter.

Ben Sample paced five Rams in double figures with 15 points. Michael O'Brien and D.J. Walton followed with 13 apiece while Ricky Keller and Nick Steimle both added 12.

Sample and O'Brien each grabbed 11 rebounds as Scott City dominated the boards 43-16.

Delta, now 7-8, was led by Lance Kinder with 16 points.

Stoddard Tournament

BLOOMFIELD, Mo. -- Top-seeded Dexter and No. 3 Richland will square off tonight for the championship of the Stoddard Conference Tournament.

Dexter rolled past No. 5 Bell City 95-68 while Richland posted a thrilling 80-75 overtime victory over No. 2 Advance.

Richland (11-4) got 29 points from Sherome Cole and 17 points and 12 rebounds from Sean Gibson.

Advance (12-3) was led by Andrew Jenkins with 30 points and Jared Ritter with 17.

Brett Hale scored 24 points for Dexter (13-2).

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Kelly 70, Greenville 52

GREENVILLE, Mo. -- Kelly continued to roll as the Lady Hawks improved to 14-1.

Bridgett Riley led the Lady Hawks with 26 points. She was the only Kelly player to reach double figures but 11 other Lady Hawks scored.

Ahead just 21-19 after one quarter, the Lady Hawks began to pull away with a 17-5 second-period edge to go up 38-24 at halftime.

Scott County Central 45

MORLEY -- Scott City raced out to a 23-6 lead after one quarter and went on to post a 32-point romp.

The Lady Rams, who moved to 9-6, were led in scoring by Loren Groves with 23 points. Tiffany Cowell and Makenzie Cartwright added 10 apiece.

Scott County Central got 16 points from Jaci Monroe, 14 from Katherine Reed and 11 from Jennifer Hoots.

EAST PRAIRIE, Mo. -- Morgan Kiefer scored 23 points to lead Chaffee to a narrow win.

Jennifer Vandeven added 12 points as the Lady Red Devils improved to 5-8.

GRANDVIEW, Mo. -- The Lady Pirates romped to an easy victory over struggling Grandview.

Perryville improved to 8-7 overall and 4-0 in the Jefferson County Conference

Jamie Amberger led Perryville with 20 points while Natalie Bohnert chipped in with 12.

CRYSTAL CITY, Mo. -- Danielle Schremp hit a fast-break layin with two seconds left to lift St. Vincent past Jefferson County Conference foe Crystal City.

Trailing 32-23 at halftime, the Squaws (4-8, 2-4) tightened defensively in the second half, holding Crystal City to 14 points.

St. Vincent had three double-figure scorers led by Schremp with 13. Caitlin Hoeh and Danielle Sutterer contributed 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Delta 39, Oran 29

ORAN, Mo. -- The Lady Bobcats rode a 10-point first quarter lead to the final horn as they defeated the Lady Eagles.

Rebecca Cook led Delta with 16 points and Rebecca Below added 11.

Ashley Dirnberger paced Oran with eight points.

ST. LOUIS -- Central posted season-best times in the 200 medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay as the Tigers posted a big victory to improve to 5-4 in dual meets.

The 200 medley relay team of Andrew Moreton, Jon Lowrance, Sam Maguire and Casey Dwyre took first in 1:53.64.

Gabe Austin, Maguire, Lowrance and Stratton Tingle teamed up to win the 400 free relay in a season-best 3:50.49.

JR. HIGH BASKETBALL

Cape Central's freshmen and eighth grade boys teams both captured championships during their own tournament.

Central's freshmen remained perfect at 12-0 with a 53-46 win over Jackson.

Four players scored in double figures for Central's freshmen, led by Ryan Delpe with 15 points. Mitch Craft, Michael Brown and Jake Knepp added 11 apiece.

Central's eighth grade is now 8-3 after a 52-46 victory over Poplar Bluff. Larenzo Braxton led the way with 24 points.
