CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. — The Kelly, New Madrid County Central and East Prairie track and field teams competed at the MSHSAA Class 3, District 1 Meet at Notre Dame Regional High School on Saturday, May 13.

Dexter won the boys’ division with a team score of 114, while NMCC was seventh with 52 points, Kelly was ninth with 25 points and East Prairie was 12th with 14.5 points.

The top four finishers from each event advance to the Class 3, Sectional 1 Meet at Hillsboro High School on May 20.

NMCC’s Ja’Kwon Jones won the high jump after clearing 1.87 meters. He was also second in the long jump and third in the triple jump with leaps of 6.4 and 12.87, respectively.

NMCC’s Evan McClellan won the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.06 seconds.

Kelly’s 1,600 relay team of Zack Hillman, Grant Burleson, Hayden Proost and Evan Shoaf was fourth with a time of 3:47.62, and Denver Mays was fourth in the shot put with a throw of 12.48.

East Prairie’s Wyatt Irby was fourth in the discus with a toss of 36.16

Ste. Genevieve won the girls’ division with 175.5 points. Kelly was sixth with a team score of 49, East Prairie was 10th with a score of 20.5 and NMCC was 11th with a score of 20.

Kelly’s 3,200 relay team of Lena Figueroa, Morgan Merrick, Gwendolyn Essner and Sara Thurmond was third with a time of 11:15.56; the 400 relay team of Carlee Ray, Aleya King, Madyson Johnson and Savannah Barnhouse was fourth with a time of 55.31; and the 1,600 relay team of Thurmond, Essner, Figueroa and King was fourth with a time of 4:54.45.

Ray was also third in the 100 hurdles with a time of 18.02; Morgan Merrick was fourth in the 1,600 with a time of 5:58.41; Myah Herrion was third in the shot put with a throw of 9.48; and Blaire Riley was second in the javelin with a toss of 34.69.

NMCC’s Ivyanna Winters was second in the 100 with a time of 13.58 and was also fourth in the 200 with a time of 28.91.
