Kelly made two potential game-saving defensive plays, then went on to defeat district rival Charleston in a 4-3 come-from-behind win on Thursday.
The host Hawks (3-3) fell behind 3-0 before mounting a comeback to tie the game in the sixth inning. A two-out RBI double by Jordan Felter followed by successive RBI singles from Caleb Daughhetee and Jon Simpher pulled the Hawks into a 3-3 tie.
Two putouts at home plate in the top of the seventh -- one on a throw by shortstop Taylor James and another by center fielder Brandon Ayers, both to catcher Brandon Lee -- killed two Charleston threats to retake the lead.
Kelly scored the game-winner in the bottom of the seventh on Lee's RBI single to center.
Daughhetee, in relief of Dallas Tew, picked up the win. Daughhetee pitched one inning, allowed one hit and no runs with benefit of the two key defensive plays. Tew was charged with three runs on seven hits with five strikeouts, one walk and two hit batsmen in six innings of work.
