~ Southeast's trio of NFL prospects went undrafted over the weekend.

It was not really a surprise that nobody from last year's Southeast Missouri State football team was selected in the seven-round NFL draft that concluded Sunday.

But the three members of the 2006 Redhawks who are considered legitimate prospects still hope to earn a shot in the NFL.

By Sunday evening, defensive end Edgar Jones had agreed to a free-agent contract with the Baltimore Ravens, wide receiver Oge Oge had been invited to the Detroit Lions' mini-camp and punter David Simonhoff was still weighing his free-agent options.

Jones, an all-American who was the national Division I-AA leader in quarterback sacks last season, will attend the Ravens' mini-camp that begins Thursday.

By signing a free-agent contract, Jones is also virtually guaranteed a spot in the Ravens' training camp this summer.

"The Ravens had talked to me quite a bit before the draft, so I knew they were interested," Jones said. "All I wanted was an opportunity. I'm very excited. It's a blessing."

Oge will attend the Detroit Lions' mini-camp that also begins Thursday. He was not guaranteed a free-agent contract but hopes things eventually lead to that.

"I'll be evaluated and hopefully I'll make a good impression so I can sign," Oge said. "I'm excited. It's my dream [to play in the NFL] and this is the first step."

Simonhoff, a three-time all-American, is also almost certain to attend a mini-camp this week, although he was not yet sure where.

"My agent is trying to work out the best possible situation for me," Simonhoff said. "Whatever happens, happens, but hopefully things will work out."
