BENTON -- Terry Johnson, of Benton, vaulted into first place in the Modified point standings with a win Saturday night at the Missouri International Racepark.
Charles LaPlant, of East Prairie, pulled along side Johnson various times but could not make a pass on the leader. The new surface was to the liking of both drivers as each fought for 20 laps for the win. Johnson held off a final charge by LaPlant to cross the line five feet in front of the second-place car.
Polesitter Kent Bailey was able to finish a half lap behind Johnson and LaPlant to place third. Pulling double duty, Super Street driver Billy James finished in the fourth spot in his modified No. 47. Steve Zelch Jr. rounded out the top five.
Billy James, of Sikeston, held off Greg King to pick up his seventh win of the year. King led all 15 laps of the Super Street feature.
On the fifth lap King passed James for the lead, but a caution flag sent the driver back into the second position. On the restart, King passed James before the leader had passed the starting cone. King was sent to the rear of the field for the infraction.
King rallied from the back of the pack to finish second. Greg Gross, who was also sent to the rear for bringing out the caution flag on lap seven, finished third. Larry Hull recovered from a flat tire to finish fourth while Randy Martin took fifth.
Shawn King, of Cape Girardeau, won the Winged Sprint car main to bring his win total to three on the year.
King took the top spot on the first lap over dash winner Jerrod Hull and never relinquished the lead. Hull, of Sikeston, ended up the night in second. Bob Thoman finished a season-high third, and was followed by Brad Rehlmeyer and Paul Hart.
Steve Pleimann, of Jackson, won his second straight Pure Street feature. Pleimann held off Cline Myers Jr. and Robert Cooksey. Cline Myers Sr. finished the race in fourth.
