The Southeast Missourian Players of the Year in both boys and girls basketball will get to showcase their talents in a high school setting one last time at the St. John's Midwest Medicine Missouri Basketball All-star game tonight at the Hammons Center in Springfield, Mo.

Dominitrix Johnson, who led Bell City to two Class 1 state championships, will take part in the small schools game. Johnson averaged nearly 30 points his senior season and poured in 40 points in Bell City's state championship game win. Johnson will attend Three Rivers Community College in Poplar Bluff.

Sommer McCauley, who also was named the Southeast Missourian Volleyball Player of the Year, was also selected to represent the area and will play in the Class 4-5 game. McCauley was Notre Dame's top scorer and helped the Bulldogs to a fourth straight trip to the quarterfinals. McCauley was also a member of Notre Dame's Class 2 state championship team in 2002. McCauley will play basketball for Jefferson College next season in Hillsboro, Mo.

The first contest will begin at 4 p.m. The 2004 class of the Missouri Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame will be honored during the all-star day.

All-state soccer honorsSierra Ellis of Notre Dame and Jackson's Ashley Bartels were each rewarded for strong senior campaigns with all-state first team honors by the Missouri High School Soccer Coaches Association.

Ellis helped the Bulldogs to their first two final four appearances. Bartels led a defense which recorded 15 straight shutouts, a state record.

Molly Hartmann, a junior at Jackson, also was honored as a first-team all-state member. Hartmann passed the 100-goal plateau in her career this season.

Notre Dame's Kristen Boos, a defender, and midfielder Lauren Mehner each made the second team. Mehner led Notre Dame in scoring this past season.

Jackson's Kt Biri, Central's Julie Underwood and Notre Dame's Amanda Dirnberger all made the honorable mention team.

Oran seniors make all-state team

Oran seniors Matt Seyer and Garrett Roslen made the first team of the Missouri High School Baseball Coaches Association all-state team.

Seyer and Roslen competed in three straight state final fours for the Eagles, including back-to-back runner-up finishes the past two seasons.

Oran junior Trevor Irwin was an honorable mention pick.

Notre Dame had two all-state picks as well, with senior Matt Wulfers a second-team pick in the outfield and Lee Essner an honorable mention choice at pitcher.

Local basketball players make all-star roster

Jennifer Hoots of Scott County Central and Jeremy Schlosser of Scott City will represent the area at the 10th Annual Gerald A. Pitz & Friends All-Star Basketball game.

The game will be played Saturday at Keeter Gymnasium at the College of the Ozarks. Former Scott County Central coach Ronnie Cookson will be one of the coaches for the boys. Both Hoots and Schlosser graduated in the spring.
