Francis Howell 3, Cape Central 1
ST. LOUIS -- Francis Howell scored two second-half goals in a three-minute span to defeat Cape Central in its own Francis Howell Tournament.
The first of the two goals came just three minutes after Cape Central had knotted the score at 1-1.
The teams played to a 0-0 halftime tie but Francis Howell broke on top 17 minutes into the second half. Cape Central tied the score nine minutes later when Cody Smith's centering pass was kicked into the net by a Francis Howell defender.
Cape Central fell to 3-3 while Francis Howell improved to 1-1-1.
"We played a lot of defense in the first half," said Cape Central coach Tom Doyle. "We played better in the second half except for a five-minute stretch. Once we tied the game I thought we'd be fired up..."
The Tigers continue tournament play today.
