Last season, Jackson High's Nathan Windeknecht scored 20 goals, establishing a school standard.
If the Indians' season opener is any indication, that record may fall.
Behind Windeknecht's hat trick, Jackson beat Cape Girardeau Central by a historic, 4-0 margin Tuesday at Lou Muegge Field.
Central coach Tom Doyle said never before had Jackson beaten the Tigers so handily. And it was Jackson coach Bonnie Knowlan's first season-starting victory.
Windeknecht, a senior, scored two minutes into the match on a penalty kick. Spencer Knowlan added a score on a free kick from 30 yards 14 minutes later, giving the Indians a 2-0 first-half edge.
Windeknecht struck twice in the second half, utilizing his speed for two breakaway goals. Raju Dirnberger had two assists.
"Today went really well for Nathan," Knowlan said.
Central's JV beat Jackson 1-0.
