ARNOLD, Mo. -- The Jackson Indians captured the overall team championship at the 10-team Fox Tournament on Saturday.
With all 14 team members placing, the Indians scored 218 points to outdistance second-place Fox (198), Northwest (190), Wentzville (188), Seckman (133), Cape Central (130), Belton (113), Hazelwood East (104), Mehlville (80) and Belleville East (74).
"I'm very proud of these guys," said Jackson coach Steve Wachter. "We showed a lot of balance, placing all 14."
The Indians had three individual champions: Brock Howard (103 pounds), Ray Goodson (215) and Luke Wade (heavyweight).
Other Jackson placers first through sixth -- were Ben Wachter (third, 112), Mike Wright (third, 119), Brent Stroud (third, 125), Ricky Feiner (second, 130), Chris Brown (fifth, 135). Justin Rice (third, 140), J. P. Sides (sixth, 145), James Love (fourth, 152), Matt Kahle (second, 160), Mark Wade (third, 171) and Seth Harrell (fourth, 189).
Cape Central showed marked improvement on last year's 10th place finish as it moved up to sixth overall, just a three points shy of fifth place.
"This was our best showing in a while," said Central coach Josh Crowell. "We're ecstatic to have this many kids place so high."
Eight Tigers placed with Leland Woelk claiming the 145-pound title. Other placers were Trever Duncan (second,152), Otis Turner (second,189), Tay Moore (fifth, 215), Alex Schnieder (sixth, 103), Dustin Ingram (sixth, 119), Clay Cummins (sixth, 125) and Jamell Austin (sixth, 160).
I-55 CLASSIC
SCOTT CITY, Mo. -- Scott City took third place in the I-55 Tournament, defeating North Pemiscot 85-66 Saturday night, while St. Vincent squeezed out a 55-52 win in the seventh-place game.
The result of the championship game between Caruthersville and Delta C-7 was not known when the Southeast Missourian went to press.
Ben Sample led the Rams (2-1) with a career-high 30 points. Nick Steimle added 15 for Scott City, followed by Ricky Keller with 12 and Chris Bradshaw with 10.
Scott City's victory was coach Derek McCord's 200th career win.
St. Vincent (1-2) outscored Senath-Hornersviell 17-6 in the fourth quarter.
"We kept putting pressure on them," said St. Vincent coach Bruce Valleroy. "We battled back. It was pretty exciting."
St. Vincent trailed 32-23 at halftime and 46-40 heading into the fourth quarter.
Mark Gotto became the third St. Vincent guard in as many games to lead his team in scoring. He had 21 points. Gotto hit two free throws with 10 seconds left and was 5-of-5 from the foul line in the fourth quarter.
Senath managed a three-pointer at the buzzer, but it was an airball.
Tyler Wengert put in 12 for the Indians and Nick Emmendorfer with 10.
Senath was led in scoring by Daniel Henry, who ended up scoring 24 after putting up 18 in the first half.
