SIKESTON – New Madrid County Central's championship run has earned top recognition from the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association (MBCA).
Dontre Jenkins has been named Class 3 Coach of the Year, while phenom Jadis Jones claimed his second consecutive Class 3 Player of the Year Award and all-state honors.
Jenkins, in his first season as head coach, orchestrated a 28-3 season for the Eagles, culminating in the program’s second straight state title.
"It means a lot to receive this honor as a first-year head coach,” he said. “I have to give all the credit to my players for trusting and believing in me, and for all their hard work and dedication.
Jones, a major college recruit, proved unstoppable throughout the season.
He averaged 27.1 points on an impressive 63 percent shooting, along with 12 rebounds, 4.4 assists, 3.3 steals, and 1.6 blocks per game.
"[Jones] averaged a double-double this whole season while opposing teams focused on slowing him down,” Jenkins said. “He did this within our system and made sure to involve his teammates. He’s an impact player that can leave his mark on whatever team he’s on – I'm just glad he was on my team."
NMCC's dominance was further solidified with senior BJ Williamson being named all-state, after averaging 22.7 points, shooting 49 percent from the field, along with 3.2 assists, 3.2 rebounds, and a team-leading 3.6 steals.
