State tennis
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Cape Girardeau Central's doubles team of Trevor Blattner and Andy Tansil wound up tied for seventh in the Missouri high school boys state tennis championships.
Blattner and Tansil, who had won two consolation matches after losing in the first round Friday, were defeated Saturday in the consolation semifinals by Billy Rippe and Matt Lunneen of St. Joseph Central 6-3, 6-3.
"Trevor and Andy came out a little flat today and their opponents were really on," said Central coach Bud Craven. "But overall I was very happy with the weekend they had. Friday they played the best they have all year."
Blattner and Tansil will have a chance to return to the state meet next year since they are both juniors.
