Brogan Jacobsen has been hired as an assistant coach for the Southeast Missouri State gymnastics program, head coach Tom Farden announced Wednesday.

Jacobsen, a former standout gymnast at Brigham Young University, replaces Andre Pickens, who recently resigned after one season with the Redhawks.

"I'm really excited to be a part here at Southeast," Jacobsen said in a press release from the university. "Southeast is a perfect fit for me, and I can't think of a better place to start my coaching career off at."

As a volunteer assistant coach at BYU last season, Jacobsen played a part in the program's first NCAA Championships appearance in five years. The Cougars were ranked as high as No. 7 nationally during the season and finished 11th at the national meet.

As a competitor at BYU for four seasons, Jacobsen set several school records for one of the nation's premier programs. She became one of only four BYU gymnasts to ever score a perfect 10 in an event when she did it in the floor exercise.

Jacobsen, who graduated from BYU this spring with a degree in exercise science, fitness and wellness management, also excelled in the classroom. She won the BYU Scholar Athlete Award four straight years, and in 2003 received Academic All-American honors.

At Southeast, Jacobsen will oversee and choreograph the Redhawks floor and beam routines. She also will be in charge of recruiting.

"I'm extremely pleased with the quality of candidates we had in our search," Farden said in the release. "Brogan had the most experience in the areas that will help the program reach the next level. Her background in choreography and exercise science will benefit the program greatly."
